Northeastern not accepting transfers for Spring '11

So I had the ball rolling on my transfer application when I got an e-mail breaking the news to me.

I am in my sophmore year, 3rd semester with a 3.4gpa at umass dartmouth, it would be a 3.65 without my d- in calculus.

The reason Northeastern was so appealing was because they don't require high school grades or SATs. I am thinking of throwing up a prayer to BU college of arts and sciences.

Any other options I might have?

What do you want to major in? Also remember Northeastern and BU are mad expensive and transfers don’t get much aid, but if cost isn’t a problem then I would throw in an application to both. You can always apply for the fall of 2011 where transfer admittance percentages are much higher than applying in the middle of the year. Also, if you finish your sophomore year at Umass Dartmouth, then you can apply as junior standing which most university’s don’t even look at your high school grades and if they do your college grades are weighted much heavier. I would recommend finishing your sophomore year at Umass D and getting the best grades you can possibly get. By waiting you can open up a bunch of different colleges in Massachusetts that you would have looked past because of intimidating acceptance rates.

Now if your like most of us where the cost of tuition is important, then I would look into Umass Amherst. Its a good state school where you can be challenged and have lots of fun.

are transfer acceptance rates much lower in the middle of the year?

i’m majoring in finance now switching to economics, the business management school is too competitive.

and yeah if i don’t get in mid year i will apply to northeastern, BU and umass amherst for junior standing… umass amherst takes a lot of umassd kids so it will be like a safety at that point.

thanks a lot.

Yeah a lot of schools go by the amount of space the have available to house transfers and usually only after the first semester doesn’t really yield a lot of space, so they can only accept as many as they can house. I mean this doesn’t apply to every single school, but most of the competitive schools will say something like this if you call asking about mid year transfer. I remember calling BU my freshman year of college to ask them and that is exactly what they told me.
