I wonder, is it true that it’s easier to get into NUin program than in regular admission? What was your/your child’s GPA for those who got in NUin?
The best place to check out and compare GPA and other stats would be the current Northeastern threads for ED1, EA and ED2. Folks are posting their decisions (accept, defer, reject, NUin) along with their GPA’s and other stats. Unlike the early years of NUin, many admitted through NUin this year have high stats and have been awarded merit scholarships. This may be due to fact that students can now select NUin as their top choice vs. traditional admission for the Fall. But, overall, Northeastern remains somewhat unpredictable in their admission patterns.
I always thought a student was more likely to get NUin if they didn’t apply for financial aid since NUin is more expensive. However, I am not sure that pattern held true this year either.
Thank you so much for your input! That’s kind of sad, I hoped it would be easier. My son’s GPA wouldn’t be too high:(
I really think that Northeastern looks beyond GPA in deciding who to admit - especially when deciding NUin admissions. It is still true that the GPA’s of students admitted through NU.in are not included in first-year admission data, so that allows more wiggle room. Would your son hope to go abroad first semester? He should check NU.in as his top preference and you never know.
Thank you for your tips! He’d love to go abroad, we still have 2 years ahead of us- he’s sophomore now, but it’s time to start looking around! His freshmen year was tough, though he tried hard, so he won’t have higher than 3.6 GPA, his school is tough on grading too. So we were hoping here, but thank you again for your insight!
I think GPA has some bearing because NEU likes to keep their stats at a certain level. As far as FA goes I’m not sure that matters…antedotally I know kids who needed and didn’t need FA who were accepted.
Prior to test optional, I am aware that a number of schools offered programs that allowed students who just missed the cut (call it the next 500 or maybe more at Northeastern) to still end up at the college. The flavors of these programs are all different, but each allows students to be omitted from fall semester published stats. The reason I mention “prior to test optional” was that lower SAT’s were a very common reason a student ended up being admitted to one of the programs. @Data10 might have real stats on these alternate fall semester or longer options, but my impression is that these students are just a bit less strong overall.
Regarding NUin, I know one person in the program now and another just admitted and each was a reasonably strong applicant.
Is Northeastern virtual or in-person this semester?
I do not know.
Looks like they are or atleast trying to be.
Are some courses being offered virtually, where it would still be an option?

According to this article students can choose whether they want in classroom or remote.
Northeastern has been in person since September. All classes are available in a hybrid format.
Does this mean that when there are multiple sections of a course, some will be offered as in person only and others as remote? Or in the same section of the same course, some students could be in person while others would be taking the course at the same day/time but logged into Zoom?
Each class is in person in class and streamed live to those students who prefer to study remotely.
4 of the 5 classes my daughter is taking do not offer an in-person option at all. The one class that has an in-person option only 2 other student show up.
D is interested in NUin in London. Any feedback from NUin students and parents who experienced the London program at the New College of the Humanities (NCH) in London? I understand the campus is moving to a new location in September but NUin students arrive in August so I wonder what that will look like.
Check YouTube channels as eachNUIN student is required to do a short video of their program.
For those who study in person, I assume any exams would be in person. For there to be fairness, how would the exams work for those who take courses remotely?
Does anyone know if there is any flexibility in terms of the age requirement for NUin? (for Italy it says students must be 18 by 8/1/21). I’ve been studying Italian all through high school, but won’t turn 18 until after Aug 1 - is there any way to override that requirement?
