Northeastern or NYU?

I’m a New Jersey resident who wants to major in English and also has an interest in journalism and creative writing. My family has a relatively low income so I applied for financial aid and ended up getting accepted into Northeastern University and NYU. However, I’m having a tough time deciding between the two as I believe both would be beneficial for my major and future career (I want to be an editor at a publishing company), so I was wondering if anyone could offer some possible insight. I like both the Boston and New York areas, and I received a more aid from Northeastern - I’m thinking about possibly appealing for more aid from NYU if I do decide to attend. As of right now, there is a $12000 difference.

Hi, I go to Northeastern right now and I absolutely love it. I think Northeastern would be the way to go as long as you like the city, especially since they gave you more financial aid. For Northeastern, you are required to perform one experiential learning during your time at NEU. This can be a study abroad, research, service learning or a co-op which is what people tend to pick. This means that starting the spring of your sophomore year or fall of your third year, you would have a job, and most are paying. For six months, you will have a real job and get real experience in your field. Then, after your six months is up, you go back to school and have gained job experience and know if that work environment is for you. In my opinion, NEU would help advance you in your career and they give you the flexibility to learn early on what work environment you like. I know a majority of people end up getting job offers from companies they worked for during their co-op. I can’t speak of NYU, but I think that NEU is worth it. It is in a great location and I love the campus. You get the campus-y feel while still being in the city. Please reach out to me if you have any questions about NEU!!

All things being equal go to the more affordable school.
