Northeastern or UW Madison?

Hi everyone! I am transferring out of the University of Pittsburgh, and I’ve narrowed down my selection to these two schools. I’m going into sociology and the environment with an intention of going to public health grad school at Harvard, Columbia, or UNC Chapel Hill. I really like UW because it has so many different environmental majors and paths, and their research opportunities are amazing. I also like that it is a bigger school, has a bigger campus, and is more of a “traditional” state school experience. For Northeastern, I love the co-op program and how they encourage double majors. Also, I like the location much better, and I plan on living on the east coast long term. However, I hate that Northeastern does not give housing to transfers at all, and housing prices in Boston are insane. Both schools would be absolutely free for me or just a few thousand dollars at most. I really am struggling in making this decision, and I thought I’d see if anyone who knows more about these process could give me an opinion. Thanks so much!

Because you wouldn’t get housing and you want a more traditional experience, I vote for UWIsconsin if it’s affordable.

Wisconsin is a great school with a national reputation, and you’ll likely be surprised by what a fun city Madison is. I agree that for those wanting a traditional college experience it’s a better choice than Northeastern. Especially for transfer students who will be looking to make friends. At Northeastern so many kids disappear off campus for months at a time while co-opping.
