My son will be attending Northeastern’s business school. His portal shows what seems to be a preliminary schedule of first semester classes. The problem is that his AP classes have not been taken into account (scores were sent a few weeks ago). In other words, he is registered for AP MIcro even though he scored a 5 on the exam. Should he contact the school now, or wait until orientation to speak to his advisor? Also, he has pending AP scores that will be released in July. Will the school revise his schedule based on his scores at that time?
He should contact his advisor (email should be fine) and tell him his AP scores which he already took and which AP tests he took this year. When my daughter was a freshman (2012) they would assume that you would pass your senior AP tests (3 or better) and schedule your classes that way. They do revise schedules at orientation (when they meet their advisor in person).
He can contact sooner if he likes but generally yes this is all handled at orientation when you meet with your advisor.
My son did his schedule yesterday at orientation. They went with the assumption that he would get qualifying AP scores and bumped up all his classes to the next level. He just needed to get approval from a head advisor.
AP credit only given for 4 and 5 scores.
I would have him peruse the schedule before orientation and have the specific courses and times that your son wants to take ready (assuming he’ll get the AP credit). I believe he can even check the professor reviews on Trace on his myneu site. The scheduling is public and he can see how many spots there are left. this will assure he gets the sections that he wants and he doesn’t have to make a snap decision with the advisor. To me, scheduling times are super important- I would advise against early morning classes first semester even if your kid is used to it - they just stay up so much later in college.
