Northeastern questions and chances?!

who has applied to NEU for fall 2010 admission already? have u heard back? if so, what were your stats and were you admitted? I will complete my application within the next week or so--but I am wondering if I am significantly behind???

anyone wanna chance me?

3.6 from a CC; 57 credits; philosophy major.

the application for northeastern is due may 1st isn’t it?

Yes the application deadline is may 1st I transferred last year. Do you have high school stats also? If not you have a pretty good chance but certain majors are not that big so they are little tougher to get into.

im trying to transfer into the CBA as a finance major; I go to umass dartmouth and have a 3.8gpa (91/1850 rank), will have 31 credits at the end of this year. not sending high school stuff or sats.

do i have a shot?

CBA is pretty competitive to get into and Northeastern is hard to determine if you have a good shot since they have a holistic approach but i think you have a great shot. A good essay and solid reccs are also very helpful. Do you have a professor rec from your business/finance classes

So, transfernkid, are you glad you transferred to Northeastern? What was the transition like? Is there a lot of support for transfers there? Do you find the classes challenging? How about the partying…is there a lot of it?

Yes I am quite happy I transferred to Northeastern. There is a lot of school spirit and camaraderie that makes the community great to be a part of. It also has helped me began networking with people whose companies i love to work for.

The transition is different for everyone. It usually begins with comparisons to the other school and how each school functions differently. I had to get used to the larger environment since my other school was only a fifth of the size of Northeastern.

Pretty much everyone i talk to has been transfers or is a transfer. We kinda have our own little community but not separate from the other students. There is just that many of us. NEU works closely with transfer students to make sure credits are transferred and there are programs if you find it hard to adjust to the new environment.

Classes at my other school was below high school level so it was a definite wake up call for me to actually put time into my work. It really depends on what you major in. Some classes will be easy and some require extra study time.

I am not much of a partier but I can definitely tell you there is always a party somewhere around campus. If you are under 21, it will be hard to get into clubs or bars w/0 a proper id. Becoming friends with upperclassman is usually essential for getting any sort of alcohol. Some go to MiT, Harvard or Bu for parties but you go to know someone to get in usually. Most of the apartment dorms usually have parties on the weekend but NUPD or BPD will shut it down after 1 am cause the neighbors complain.

I applied to Northeastern with the same stats as you.

GPA: 3.65 from a CC
62 credits
Public Relations Major

I just finished and sent out my application. They do their admissions on a rolling basis i believe. So…we shall see.

Good luck to you!

did you get an email after submitting the common app, confirming that they received it?

and how to we make sure all of our stuff got there? did you guys have the school send your transcript right to the application procssing center?

just send it to application processing center. Then call in about a week to see if they receive it because they do not update the status check as fast. School sends the transcript and usually the school you are going to now will notify when NEU receives it.

Current NU student here.

21 and HRF, you both have a great shot. I can’t really go into much detail, being a Bio major, but CBA is rather competitive; however, we have a good relationship with UMass Dartmouth and that will definitely help. I know several people who transferred here with less than stellar transcripts; both of you are doing very well and should get in.

I got an email a couple days after applying.

Check their website and see what you have to send to the school and send everything to the Application Processing Center.

I’m just waiting on the decision now…
