Do you think it will continue to rise this year?
With all the ties in the 30’s and 40’s in the rankings I am hesitant to predict. A slight increase or decrease in a metric could cause a rise or fall several places.
But heck! i predict 39.
39 is good enough.
but, there seem to be a certain limitation for NET to enter TOP 35 University…
Northeastern’s limited endowment will prevent the school from rising above the mid 30’s in the short term. The longer term can’t be predicted. But the mid 30’s is a very nice neighborhood!
I don’t know what NEU ranking will be but there is no question they are able to recruit kids with very high scores.

SATs and ACTs are easily comparable with top 30 schools.
Princeton Review has new Northeastern data up. Wow, better than I thought it could be.
Also see Tufts, BC and BU.

Why is NEU ranked so low (#244) in the Forbes list?

Other than US News, which other college ranking lists (Times, QS, CWUR, etc) are you talking about?

Only a little more than a month to go. Rankings have a weird sort of positive-feedback trend, so hopefully Northeastern will begin to move up more on non-USNews lists.
@TomSrOfBoston I’ve seen you answer a lot of questions before, and you definitely know your stuff. Why does Northeastern’s endowment make it hard for it to rise above 35? It is an actual consideration in US news’s rankings, or does it just limit Northeastern from hiring better faculty/building new facilities?
@i012575 I’ve had the same question as you about Northeastern’s Forbes rankings. Although I have yet to get a very concrete answer, the gist of what I’ve heard is that Forbes uses different factors to determine its rankings. The biggest factor for Northeastern is the 4-year graduation rate. Forbes evidently gives graduation rate a very high priority, which is bad for Northeastern since so many of their students do the 5 year, 2-3 co-op option. I think Northeastern is trying to raise their 4-year rate by offering many of the majors in 4 years with 1-2 co-ops.
@julianstanley Yes, another billion or two in the endowment would enable any school to build more facilities, provide more support for faculty research and provide more grants and scholarships to its students. It is not a factor in the USNews rankings per se.
Forbes is an odd ranking and their use of the 4 year grad rate hurts Northeastern. The various world wide rankings rely almost exclusively on research output. Thus BU ranks high and Northeastern and BC are low ranked in those surveys. It is important to look at the methodology of each ranking.
Forbes also uses rate my professor in their rankings, which seriously drops its credibility in my book.
Agreed @julianstanley… never liked the Forbes rankings myself. Too much importance is given to factors such as class size and retention rate… not easily identifiable with student success !
On the plus side, it seems that NEU is more recognizable (#29) in the Engg. and CS world nowadays for undergrads. A new ranking from Business Insider.

The test scores for enrolled freshmen will be a bit lower and will be announced in October.
