Hey,
I just got accepted today (!) and my letter said I'm in the "Northeastern University Scholars Program" which is apparently new for 2012. Did anyone else get in/does anyone know more about it? It's full tuition... :)

May I be nosy and ask what your stats are? Did you apply RD?

I got into this program too (I applied EA though)! It sounds really awesome!

There is a Scholars Weekend march 18-19 and the school will pay for your flight out. It’s a full tuition program meant to recognize the top of the Honors students. There is a page on the Northeastern webpage with more info. It gets updated frequently, so check every now and then (when i got accepted into the program, they didn’t even have a webpage yet!).

Call your admissions counselor for more info, but congrats! Hope to see your at the weekend in March!

And bjorn1 - I had a 3.8 UW GPA, 4.2 weighted. 2100 SAT, 33 ACT, 8 AP classes, tons of ECs/leadership

I hate this not knowing. I guess I am not going to be offered this opportunity. I received my honors offer today with no mention of the Scholars Program. i did apply regular decision, but I imagine the invitations are winding down. People need time to make the appropriate travel plans. Oh, well…

BTW, congratulations to both of you.

GBulldogs, could you please post your stats? I’m expecting my decision soon, and I’m trying to see if I can guess if I’ll land in the Scholars or Honors program

I just got the letter for the University Scholars Program as well… GBulldogs and lulu222 - do you think you guys are going to enroll at Northeastern? With the scholarship offer and the program, NU’s just shot up way high on my list

I applied EA as well and my UW GPA is 3.9 and WGPA is 4.7. SAT 2350, took a lot of APs (14 including this year’s courses). I don’t have tons of ECs but I concentrated on rowing/crew, art, and debate through high school and had leadership roles.

lulu222 - where did you hear that the school would pay for the flight out to Boston? I’ve looked everywhere for the info and couldn’t find it. I haven’t had a proper campus tour of NU yet and since this year is the Program’s pilot year, I’d really like to go on the Scholars Event and hear more details about the program. It would be so helpful if they’d pay for us to go!

Northeastern is definitely on the top of my list now (pretty sure it’s between it and one other school). Guess we will see after the weekend…

I found the flight info in an email that I got. There is an address to contact for more info. Also, when you register on your myNEU page for the weekend i says that the school will pay for your flight. Also, if you come with a parent, NEU will pay for your parent’s hotel for that night (students get to stay in the dorms). They won’t pay for your parent’s flight out, but it’s still a great deal!

If anyone is interested, apparently during the weekend of the program, those who attend will be staying in the Honors Dorms. Everyone living in Honors housing was sent an email asking if they wanted to volunteer to house persons accepted into this program.

Can’t wait to see the dorms! Do all Honors students live in the International Village?

All freshman honors students do along with regular upperclassmen
The upperclassman honors students can also live in west village C&F

Yeah, just got the email saying they pay for my flight. I’m debating that vs. waiting until April, when I know where else I got in, so I can fly and visit all at once.

Stats: 4.0 unweighted, 9 APs (including this year) & 6 honors, 2380 SAT, student government and computer science background.

wow GBulldogs, that’s an incredibly impressive set of stats
makes me feel a bit better about not getting the scholar award

I got in too. :)

See you there.

Thanks lulu222, I got the email and letter!
See you guys all there!

Are these invitations finished being handed out? Northeastern must be highly competitive this year because I thought I would make it into the top 10% (2310 SAT, 4.0 GPA, 9 APs). Is it mainly based on stats or ECs as well?

Based on the invitation letter that was posted on another thread here, EC’s, especially those showing entrepreneurship, are a major factor in admission to the Scholars program. Also, the Scholars program is for the top 2% of applicants according to the university’s website.
