@morgskay I’m also transferring from SDSU! Good luck
Hi everyone! Kinda late to the party haha, but I figured I’d join in anyways.
I’m applying as a sophomore transfer, never applied to NEU before.
Current School: Colgate University
HS GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.6 weighted (my school doesn’t calculate based on 4.0/5.0 scale, so technically my weighted GPA was a 96.35, but when they did the calculations it fell to 4.0/4.6 for unweighted, weighted respectively)
SAT: (old) 760 (writing), 720 (reading), 550 (math), 10 (essay); (new) 710 (reading), 610 (math), 19 (essay)
SAT II: 720 (English), 620 (U.S. History)
AP: English Language (5), English Literature (5), U.S. Gov’t and Politics (4)
College GPA: 4.0 (one withdrawal, explained on my application); currently my midterm report shows I’ve maintained a 4.0 into the 2nd semester
Major: English
EC’s: I’m an executive member for a political organization on campus, the secretary/exec. board member for the Catholic community on campus, and an executive team leader for our chapter of the American Heart Association. I also participate in volunteerism with animals (club on campus), club bowling, and most importantly the publications on campus (newspaper, satire paper, and literary magazine–most important b/c I love English/writing more than anything).
Letters of Recc: I got one from my English professor/freshman advisor. I had a pretty good relationship with her, and while she didn’t want me to leave, she agreed to help me nonetheless. I did really well in her class.
Other things: Colgate’s known for grade deflation, so I hope that maintaining a 4.0 this long even with the one withdrawal from a class unrelated to my major won’t do too much damage, considering how the average GPA here is like a 3.2-3.3. I’m also a Hispanic female, and first generation college student.
Can anyone chance me? Also, when can we hear the final decisions??
Ethnicity: Caucasian (international student from Turkey)
Major: Business Administration concentrating in Finance
College GPA: 3.78
Credits: 60
HS GPA: 3.85
SAT: Never took it. Also, not required
TOEFL: WAIVED
LoR: I can get one from a business prof or dean of international admissions. Not sure if I should take it
Essays: Decent essays
College ECs:
- Member of Turkish-American Association
- Member of Investment Club
- Member of Honor Society Club
- Have done some interns in Turkey
- Working part-time on campus
High School EC/Awards (not all, just ones I’m including)
- Couple community works
- Done abroad community work
- Some clubs in HS
I have a 3.92 GPA in Civil Engineering at Clarkson University. I’m a second-semester freshman, though I did apply to Northeastern to be a freshman(was denied).
Clubs:
-Associated General Contractors
-Clarkson University Student Association(student government)
-American Society of Civil Engineers
-American Chemical Society
-Steel Bridge
-Humans vs Zombies
-Admissions Tour Guide
-Potentially tutoring
Research on alkaline methods of green concrete development, its durability, etc.
I should also be certified as a LEED Green Associate by the time I apply.
High school I didn’t do as well- 3.4 GPA, 1430-ish on SATs, 32 on ACT. I was sick for a month in Sophomore year, and as a result took a huge hit to my GPA(I wrote about this).
Personal statement details my change in attitude from high school to college, being that in HS I didn’t put effort in, now in college I’m doing as much as I can to get as much out of it as possible. Now that I’m working hard, it’s clear that my academic performance in HS was not an accurate representation of my academic ability and I’m trying to do better by myself.
Can anyone chance me?
Hey guys! NEU is my goal! Can someone chance me? My main concern is my GPA but looking at charts from accepted Freshmen applicants gives me confidence. I know that NEU loves Veterans so I’m hoping that my application is looked at differently. College became harder and harder with gained responsibility in the military but I refused to quit going so that’s why my GPA dropped. I’m 22 years old so a lot of the Certifications I’ve picked up are EXTREMELY uncommon for someone at my age. Let me know what you guys think please!

can you apply for spring transfer freshman year ? waitlisted for the fall, but want to have a plan in place as getting in off the waitlist seems tenuous at best
I don’t know if you can or can’t, but I’m not sure how much you would have to add to your profile for a spring application(as you wouldn’t even have first semester college grades yet).
I agree with @Aran888888. Your transfer application would be the same as your freshman application just with the addiction of midterm grades. If you wait a year, you can drop your ACT/SAT scores and have a semester as well as midterm grades for them to review
Or(as I’m doing), apply after your first semester. That will put far more weight on your ability to succeed in a college environment. I think. I’ll be able to speak more to that if I uh get in.
yeah I know, got waitlisted - but I’m not sure what else I could add anyways as I have nothing less than an A on my transcripts, 8 AP classes (4s and 5s) and a 1 sitting SAT 1550 (800, 750) NMF, good ECs and recommendations- no hooks though
With the amount of applications these schools see, unfortunately many of those things do fall flat because everyone has them. Look to find something to make you stand out. Additionally, you really want to prove to them that you can do well with college level coursework in a college setting(Say what you will about AP difficulty, college is a different lifestyle physically, socially, and academically).
You’d be surprised at the number of star students who walk into college, trip, and fall flat on their faces(metaphorically speaking). Peer pressure to party(or do things that aren’t productive), the lifestyle change of living alone, being away from home, how prepared you were for college when leaving high school, these are all things that can affect your college performance.
Find something that can make you stand out as a student. Do research(idk your field, so this may not apply), land a co-op or internship, keep doing extracurriculars and above all else, do well in your classes. Northeastern likes to see a 3.3(min) to a 3.6(avg) transfer GPA. Considering your current APs, ECs, etc, you should be fine. That being said, I’m going through the transfer process myself and I’m not quite sure even where I stand, so take my words with a grain of salt.
Had the virtual transfer discussion for Northeastern today. The average college GPA for accepted transfer students is from a 3.6-3.7 overall GPA.
Anyone else here applying to BU?
@pink418 me! i’ll be applying to both BU and BC and northeastern, ofc
@pink418 @koreanincali I’m also applying to BU and BC!
@pink418 I’m applying BU and Bentley as well!
I’m applying to NU as well.
Here are my stats:
20 Y/o, Female, Asian/Pacific Islander, Out of state, community college transfer
Major: Computer Engineering / Computer Science
Transfer Credits: On a quarter basis… I will have 155+ when I transfer (this is about 108 semester based)
GPA: Will be 3.81-3.84 when I finish (kinda low but I took a bunch of classes I didn’t necessarily need… my last two quarters will be 4.0’s)
Extra curriculars: solid. nothing too outstanding or out of the ordinary. i have some hackathon experience, several hours of volunteer experience, and am heavily involved on campus.
Essay: strong… could be a little risky but i had a few people read it and they said it was good
Professor Recommendation: I have 1 from my math professor
SAT subject scores: ehh… I really do poorly under timed exams. I don’t see how I am expected to answer 75 physics questions in 60 minutes and do outstandingly lol
Resume: strong
HS: really bad. but i made a huge improvement in college and have been taking college level classes for 3 years (since I was 17)
Good luck to us all! honestly i am not expecting to get in… lol. Even if I did get in I need a lot of aid…
hey i am applying as a transfer from TCC too lol, but for Computer Engineering
@yankeebanger Hi, I have a question about toefl waiver. Does NEU automatically waive your toefl requirement or you email the international admissions for toefl waiver? When I sumitted my application to NEU at the end of Feburary, I got the application link later on. And I see the toefl requirement is on my application link…but this is my fifth year in US
