Northeastern, UConn, Georgia Tech, Syracuse among others

Hi!

So I'm currently a junior and I'm looking at colleges. I'd like to stay in the Northeast-ish region (some mid atlantic is ok, but northeast is preferred), except for UC Berkeley, which has been my dream^1000 since freshman year. I just got back my SAT scores today, and I'm very unhappily surprised (seeing as I scored about 200 points higher on my practice tests lol). But hopefully the ACTs will be better.
ANYWAYSSS. I go to a top 10 school in Mass (not a private school) and it doesn't rank because it's super competitive.

As of the start of junior year:
UW GPA: 3.42 (hopefully I can get it to a 3.58 at least by the end of this year..?)
W GPA: 3.83 (hopefully above a 4.0 after this year)
SAT: 1880. CR600 M670 W610
I've been getting over a 32 composite on all my ACTs so hopefully that'll work out and my SAT won't be sent lol

First two yrs of highschool I took all the toughest classes offered to me. I've taken Honors: English, Algebra II, Geometry, History, Biology. (sophomore yr): All Honors Chemistry, Latin, Pre-Calculus, English, AP Biology and AP European History.
I have also taken two years of CADD and a year of Intro to Java.
This year I take: APUSH, AP Art, and the rest are honors (Calc, English, Physics, Latin)

I've been a consistent A and B student, I've only gotten one B- and that was in Honors Chemistry sophomore year

ECs
Latin Club (7yrs) (school leadership and leadership at state level)
Church Organization (5yrs) (leadership (I've been treasurer, secretary and vice-chair)
Varsity Girls Basketball (2 yrs...I'm quitting this yr to improve my grades)
Math tutor for middle schoolers (4 years)
Speech and Debate team (2 years)
Varsity Track and Field (2 years)
Science Olympiad (2 years)
I work at an Art Museum in my area
I work at the YMCA (currently do 7 hrs a week but hopefully will start doing 20 hrs after xmas)

I'm considering doing technovation but I'm not sure if I will...

I've got a couple awards (nothing too special)
Magna Cum Laude on National Latin Exam
Sportsmanship award from an event I went to
I graduated from a culinary school in 8th grade so I might put that down too

My recs are going to be pretty good. One will be from my APUSH teacher who loves me, another from my Physics teacher and one from my latin teacher

I think that's about it.

I'm applying for financial aid.
I'm a girl who is middle-eastern white and I'm an immigrant.

I want to either double major or major and minor in Mechanical Engineering and European History/Political Science (respectively..I haven't decided if I wanna do History or PoliSci yet)

My list of schools so far are:

UC Berkeley
Lehigh
Northeastern
Syracuse
Georgia Tech
UMass Amherst
MCPHS
UConn
Boston College
Boston University
NYU
Carnegie Mellon
Suffolk

If ya'll could please tell me what to really improve on and which schools are match/reach/safety that'd be awesome! Also, if you guys have some other suggestions for schools, let me know!

THANK YOUUU♥

BU, Northeastern, Suffolk, Syracuse, UConn, UMass, GT are all match schools for you! The others are more reach , definitely work hard and get your GPA up! andalso if you got a 32 on your act thats amazing, send those adn not the sat’s

A 3.42 GPA and 1880 SAT would make Northeastern a reach.

Hmmmm… I recommend that you focus on your strengths. You are strong in Latin, and that is the only area in which you can currently claim a national award, significant leadership and long-term commitment. Why don’t you plan on double-majoring or at least minoring in Latin, and then select universities that actually offer it? Otherwise your impressive achievements in this area become irrelevant on your college application. Next, I would reconsider mechanical engineering, as I don’t think you will like it due to the math requirements and the nature of it. Have you considered something more artsy to fit your background and strengths, like industrial design perhaps, or some other design major? As for universities, it looks like cost is not an issue for you, since Berkeley is your favorite, and they do not offer big scholarships or financial aid for out of state students. Consider whether the cost, weather, student body, neighborhood, etc. are a good fit for you at each university you are considering. Berkeley is 40% Asian, no snow, highly competitive…if you really like the NE and four seasons, just focus on colleges there. That would rule out Ga Tech also. Some of the universities on your list will be a reach, unless you can find a match between an area you’ve excelled in (like Latin) and what you plan to study at the university. Check out websites like https://www.■■■■■■■■■■/</a> to get some more ideas of where your stats fit in for accepted students at various universities.

Your SAT is too low for most of those schools. The good news is you are still a junior and have a chance to improve those scores. Perhaps you will do better on the ACT.

Thanks everyone!
Hopefully my ACT will be much better, and by the looks of my practice tests, I’m doing pretty well
@mommyrocks‌ the reason I don’t plan on going into Latin is that despite how much I enjoy it, I really can’t commit myself to it. I might consider a minor in the Classics, but definitely not a major. I really can’t imagine doing so much all over again. It was mainly my latin club that kept me in it, so I’ll definitely continue doing stuff outside of school with it but idk about a major.
Also, I want to go into mechanical engineering because I’ve taken CADD and now advanced CADD and I absolutely love it. I’m one of the top kids in my physics class, so I don’t totally struggle with it, but the design process definitely interests me. I’vs gone to a STEM school since middle school, so I’ve grown up loving the sciences. Maybe I’ll do mechanical engineering drafting, but either way, some kind of engineering will probably happen.

I do love New England, but I’m not limiting myself to it (despite my parent’s wishes). I would love to leave New England area if I got into a school I loved and got money to go, speaking of which, financial aid is quite important to my family and me. Our income is about <120,000 so they really can’t afford an expensive college. I know Berkeley doesn’t give a lot of money and I’m probably not going to get in so I’m not very worried haha.

Also, does anybody have any good schools to recommend?

UCB will be tough.

Yeah I know, I’m just hoping my ACTs can be good and I might have a shot.
If all goes to plan, hopefully I can raise my UW gpa (although my school only reports the weighted)

bump?

guys…?

yo guys
