There is no real correlation between BU and Northeastern decisions. Having monitored decisions here on CC for several years I have seen students denied at Northeastern and accepted at BU, sometimes with merit. And vice versa of course.

@KcParent , have not gotten anything recently. We got a confirmation email and some welcome to NUin emails after making the deposit, but no other updates so far. We keep checking her portal, as they originally said there would be items added after March 15th (flight reservations, course selections, passport upload, visa info. if applicable, etc) but, I would imagine that is all on hold for now until this is all figured out.

Hi! Not sure how relevant this is but are there any international students here who’ve gotten into the honors program? I honestly really like NEU but if accepted, I could only attend with a merit scholarship :frowning:

we all have no idea at this point but it’s unlikely to be thursday because it’s ivy day

Off topic a bit, but does anyone have any color on financial awards at Northeastern vs. BU? Is one more generous than the other?

quick question- if i didn’t get into BU (Questrom), then is there any hope for me getting into Northeastern ?

@thefemalecurry35 self-report I’m pretty sure, as official score reporting wasn’t required.

@Tyga1234 ok, just wondering.

Tangential: what’s everyone thinking about the May 1/June 1 deadlines? How is your student/child approaching that? 200+ colleges have gone to June 1, but it seems the de facto deadline is still May 1, since more colleges are sticking with May 1.

For example, out of the schools my daughter is considering only 2 are now June 1 but more of her accepted schools are still May 1.

Hey, I may missed the discussions on an email update from NEU on March 21st. The following is the email. I have never gotten an email that gives the admissions counselor name/info and to contact them once the decision is released. Anything I should read into the email?

I am writing to let you know that we will be notifying applicants of their admission decision next week. Applicants will receive an e-mail informing them that their decision is available in their Application Status Check.

I appreciate your patience awaiting your decision as I know that senior year is a stressful time to begin with and the impact of COVID-19 hasn’t lessened that stress. Please know that Northeastern is working hard to ensure the safety of our community and making plans for the educational continuity of all of our students, including our admitted Huskies.

Northeastern has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 developments in conjunction with public health officials. To further ensure the safety of our community, the university has moved to a fully-digital presence. Our admissions staff will be available to provide service via email and phone in the coming days and weeks. You can also contact your admissions counselor, Caitlin McDonough, at c.mcdonough@northeastern.edu, with any specific questions about your decision once it has been released.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Cheron

It would be great if all the colleges could extend to June 1st so everyone can assess their circumstances/finances better given current COVID-19. However, I seriously doubt the major colleges will move it sigh!

Hi @redwag: that’s the letter sent to all, though some had to find it in their spam folders, and the consensus is not to read anything into it beyond what’s in the letter, that it’s a generic info-only letter. Some wondered why they got it after others, if that meant anything about decisions, but it is most likely just how batches were organized without any relevance to applicant preference.

That is interesting though what you pointed out, that suggests the applicants may contact counselors after the decisions come out, but I wonder if it just means there may be more desires looking for feedbacks this year, especially questions like “did coronavirus, NUin future uncertainties affect the decisions this year.”

Thank you for the quick reply. I guess I got my hopes up wrongly ?

It’s also an era of uncertainty for the admissions officers all around I am sure.

Admissions departments around the country are also trying to anticipate changes to applicants’ decisions: will people go for the familiar, nearby schools they can drive to, since going back for second visits can’t happen and parents may want to be able to pick up their students if the virus flares up again? That may influence schools hoping to keep their yield rate up to offer acceptances to students located nearby and not across the country, one admissions officer has told a Washington Post reporter.

The economy turmoil also may play a role in how both sides see things, including public and private schools, on acceptance offers: in-state vs out-of-state tuition, need based considerations
so many variables, and all of it suddenly coming up within the last few weeks.

This has got to be the craziest admissions cycle in a long time.

fingers crossed for tomorrow !??

How do you know its tomorrow?

Wednesday is still the most likely. Very small chance of tomorrow, though of course technically possible.

@Realck Financial aid tends to be similar, but as with admissions, varies case by case. I’ve seen people get significantly more from one in both directions. Often a matter of luck/appeals/etc.

Generally both can be generous for low income students but tend not to be for middle class families. Better than NYU, worse than Ivies.

Totally agree that its been crazy the past few weeks with more to come. Hopefully, with high level of uncertainty, the admissions committee will admit more applicants to compensate for the lower the yield
