Are we still thinking 4 pm today? Doesnāt NEU normally tweet/email on the day admissions are released? Thursday/Friday seems unlikely with Ivy Day but NEU has been making strides to be more selective in recent years so they might feel ready to compete with Ivy Day now.
hey! I actually got into udel honors and northeastern last year and ultimately decided on Northeastern because of the opportunities that it had to offer that udel didnāt (like research and coops). Obviously, Iām not sure what udel is like but this past year at northeastern has been absolutely amazing and Iām so beyond thankful that I chose to attend!
On āIvy Dayā 10+ colleges release their decisions at the same time and students are feverishly logging onto different college portals and turn away with disappointment or glee. Releasing on a non-Ivy day is usually preferable so the college can get their own attention and focus - its best for students if they can get these results on different dates.
Hello: what major/program are you in or are aiming for? Do you feel youāre in a small program, or do you feel like youāre in a large university? Thank you!
My daughterās typical academic environment has been small schools and classes, and she does great with lots of interaction with faculty and support staff, but we liked NEU for the huge variety of programs and co-op emphasis.
I am wondering if a large university like NEU might feel smaller since it has so many programs and niches and major possibilities. She is undecided but has lots of interest in tech/comp sci direction.
For what its worth, Northeasternās CS program is one of the best in the university and is known specifically for its teaching focus. Itās still a relatively larger program but thereās quite a good deal of support especially in the intro CS course. Of course, finances/fit are important but if thatās equal it would be Northeastern by a mile for me for CS specifically.
@esdoc I am currently in Bouve which is the college of health sciences. I obviously have some large lectures like general science courses that have over 150 students, but some of my courses are less then 20 kids. I have never really felt as if Northeastern is too big of a school - and on the other side of things I also donāt feel as if itās too small. There is definitely more than enough to do on campus and everyone seems to find their niche or group to join as well!
Does anyone know why last yearās NEU stats were so much more selective than previous years? Acceptance rate alone dropped 10%, which I know is more attributed to the number of applicants which they donāt control, but avg GPA/Sat range also raised quite a bit for a single year of change.
@foxham In 2017 Northeastern overenrolled 300 students in the fall creating a housing shortage on campus. Since then they have admitted fewer students. The rise in stats has been fairly steady and incremental over the past 5 years.
