Northeastern University Admission

Northeastern University is my dream school and I would like to know if anybody familiar with the institution could give me an idea of my chance of admittance. I would like to major in Chemical Engineering.

I go to one of the most academically renowned public high schools in the nation (we are consistently in the top 10 in the country). I take the most challenging courses available at one of the most challenging schools. My senior year courses are as follows:

AP/IB Physics HL
AP/IB Chemistry SL
AP/IB English HL
IB Contemporary History
AP Environmental Science
AP Statistics
AP Calculus AB
IB Theory of Knowledge
AP Microeconomics

My classes in previous years look similar with the exception of 4 years of IB French which I completed in my junior year and received a 5 on the SL exam (my weakest subject).

My GPA is rather low and is my biggest concern as it is a 4.1 weighted. My SAT score is a 2130 (770 reading, 660 math, and 700 writing). I took two subject tests (though I've heard they are not considered for NEU), 650 Math II and 700 Physics. I am in the National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, Math National Honor Society, and English National Honor Society.

My strength is in my extracurriculars. I am a 4 year starting quarterback and captain for the football team as well as a 3 year starting pitcher, middle infielder, and captain for the baseball team. I am particularly good at baseball (for which I was nominated All-Conference my junior year) and I am interested in possibly walking on at NEU. I have also accrued over 100 hours in community service and I have consistently received 4's and 5's on the several AP's I have taken.

I think my essay is strong and I was wondering what you guys think. Thanks!

Based on what you said, you have a great chance. Good luck!

You sound like a great candidate, (especially if you are from out of the New England area.) Since your SAT scores are strong, your GPA should be okay. NEU is a terrific school! Good luck!
