Does anyone know if the acceptance rate for engineering is much lower than the published acceptance rate for Northeastern University
Northeastern claims that the same admission standards apply to all majors.
I don’t know why this thread is filled this year with people asking about admission rates for different majors and different schools - Northeastern states all majors/schools are accepted with the same criteria and same admissions rate - everybody stop asking!
Hi @jjmama. I’m D is a freshman at Northeastern majoring in engineering. I found this site helpful when looking at schools: http://profiles.asee.org/profiles/6952/screen/19?school_name=Northeastern+University. The most recent profile for Northeastern shows 7,566 applied for engineering and 2,916 we accepted in 2015 (38.5% acceptance rate). For the same year, the overall acceptance rate was 28%. Maybe the students applying to engineering are stronger than the overall applicant pool? Like so many things in college admissions, it remains a mystery. I know I wish a had a crystal ball this time last year.
Good luck & aloha.
Where do those numbers come from, though? If it’s self-selected reporting, you’re not going to end up with a fair sample. People also probably won’t choose to report that they’re rejected, so that would push up the reported acceptance rate.
Per the ASEE website, the numbers come from the school: “Information was furnished by institutions that responded to ASEE’s annual survey. Before deciding upon an institution for study, students should contact the appropriate offices and consult the degree program catalogs at each institution to verify information. Questions about information provided should be addressed to the respective institutions.”
