Northeastern University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2023 Admission

My son got into tonight! Boston campus and invited to Honors Program.

We did visit Pitt in the summer and he really liked the vibe, although it was bigger and more spread out than he prefers so he applied to the honors program hoping it might make it feel smaller. Thanks for the encouragement! I know heā€™ll find a great college home!

My daughter has same stats (minus SAT, we did test optional). Her dad and I are both graduates although I know they donā€™t put much into legacy due to how elite the school has become) and we were deferred as well. Itā€™s almost as though they couldnā€™t get through all of the applications!

Iā€™m so curious why they accept to campus options or programs the student indicates they arenā€™t interested in.

It is because they do not have enough space in Boston for everyone who wants to go to Northeastern, and they see value in these programs for their students.

Many students also become more excited about these alternative programs after being admitted and learning more.

Same here. Admitted to Oakton despite only applying to Boston. No info provided about what this means, is it one semester, one year or all 4 years?

Forgot to share stats earlier. My DS got in to Oakland. He was really only interested in Boston. We live in Vermont.

Major: Biology
GPA: 3.7 UW
Dual enrollment in a health sciences program where heā€™s got college credit for Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2, and Medical Terminology as well as certifications in medical ethics, CPR & first aid & by end of year EMT certification

Did not submit test scores
Student Assistant for Varsity basketball all 4 years
He never shared his essaysā€¦but I assume they were strong.

My husband and I are legacy as well and son was deferred .

Deferred DD 1490 SAT, Do they look at FAFSA or CSS application when making determination ?

Northeastern has the most alternative programs that I know of, but other schools have pathways. UF and FSU have summer start that you can get even if you donā€™t request it. They also have guaranteed transfer from community colleges near them.

Did you look at the ED1 results? Northeastern seems to really value people applying ED. I know it is possible people were outright rejected who applied ED1, but I did not hear of anyone. The closest to a rejection that I heard was rejection with guaranteed transfer for sophomore fall. I know that is not something that a lot of people would consider, but if Northeastern really is your top choice, it seems like a decent outcome to me.

Good luck! :four_leaf_clover:

I believe that Northeastern is ā€œneed-awareā€ although I am not sure how much that factors for domestic applicants.

They may think because he is such an outstanding student that there is a good chance he will be accepted elsewhere. Itā€™s like a chess game.

so i was just deferred ea and am looking into ed2 for neu. if i listed yes for boston campus (4 years) and yes for NU IN, but no for everything else, can i still get binded to one of the options i said no to?

For ED (and ED2), the ED agreement is only binding if they offer you one of the campus options that you requested.

is that 100% true? i saw somebody online say they had a friend that got binded to oakland even though they said they did not want to be considered for it.

Yes you can. My son ONLY said yes to Boston but was accepted to Oakland.
But, if you are ED1 or 2 I believe itā€™s only binding if itā€™s one of the choices you indicated interest in.

Any idea if they have Co-ops the way that Boston one does?

There are people in this thread who received ED acceptance to a campus option that they didnā€™t request, and who reported that the ED agreement was no longer binding for them. Somewhere up above, in this long long threadā€¦
