Northeastern University Honors Program

Is it worth it? I was offered a 20k scholarship and admission into the Northeastern Honors program. It sounds great on paper, but I am not sure if attending NEU for this program is worth it. I was admitted into universities of alleged higher caliber than NEU, but would choosing the honors program over those schools be a good decision? Help!!

@migh123: my personal opinion: You should not ask this question in Northeastern forum. You will expect lot of pro NEU answer. You should ask this question in the forum of the school that your heart really want to attend.

Personally, I wouldn’t consider NEU solely for the Honors Program. I’ve been able to benefit from Honors Housing (primarily Freshman year it’s a major step up, but it can be nice to live in Honors housing later on, though its comparable to the options available to non-Honors students) and being able to take more intensive sections of some courses. Aside from the above, the only other major benefit I can think of is that having been in an Honors Program looks good when you graduate, and attending occasional talks or other activities.

On top of that, I’ve also taken classes I really didn’t want/need to take in order to take the number of Honors courses needed to remain in the program.

Northeastern is a great school, but as an Honors student, the Honors program really hasn’t had that major an influence on my academic experience. There have certainly been some perks, but I wouldn’t base my decision on NEU’s Honors program unless you’re having to decide between NEU and another school and they’re neck and neck in all other aspects.

@kidstubborn: It’s never a bad idea to ask for advice on the boards of all the schools you are considering, but pretty much every board has a bias that promotes the school in question, which should be kept in mind when taking advice.
