mathmomvt–will be interested in hearing your S’s reaction to the Welcome Day this weekend. Please post some reflections.

My S has decided not to visit this weekend. He would rather do his visits everywhere that is still on the table after he hears back from his RD schools as well, so they’ll all be “fresh” when he is deciding.

Freshmen don’t do directed studies. But don’t worry, CS has a bunch of honors classes freshmen can take. My friend in CS had most of his honors classes taken care of after his first year. They have an honors seminar (that isn’t one of the normal honors seminars that upperclassmen take) and this year they had an honors fundies 1 and then there are always the electives and enhancing honors.

Thanks neuchimie. It’s not that he’s worried about finding enough honors classes to take. He’s just wondering, for example, if he has to take Calc I, is there an honors section of that, figuring that the pace and rigor may be more what he’s looking for than the general Calc I even though they cover basically the same material.

@Godot00

thanks for clearing that up for me.

Don’t waste your money or your parents’ money on NEU. It’s a mediocre school. It’s way overpriced. There are state schools for a quarter of the price that are ranked higher than NEU. Sure, it has a fancy campus, a nice gym, a gourmet dining hall for those who can afford it, but it’s all for show. It’s still not a great school academically. You’d be wise to go somewhere else. It’s not worth $36,000/yr in tuition, not even counting books, fees, and living expenses. It’s more of a corporation than a non-profit. Everything is meant to attract wealthy students who could not get into better private schools. NEU is great at advertising. It’s unfortunate that students’ and their parents believe the hype.

^^^Sounds like someone got denied at Northeastern.

It’s a really great school. My brother’s there and his current co-op is at Fidelity. I’m not sure a “mediocre” school would allow a 21-year-old junior in college to work at such a quality company.
I also got admitted honors, with a 90/100 GPA unweighted, a 32 ACT and 2070 SAT, and got $20,000 / year :)

I wouldn’t say that it’s mediocre either… Its reputation is really rising. It has jumped 81 spots in the US News rankings recently. Any top 100 school on that list is worth attending. Of course there are better schools, but there are also much, much worse. Sorry you didn’t get in.

JohnnyRural02120, where are you attending college (or planning to attend) and what are you studying?

Dude, you post three “northeastern is only for the stupid and wealthy” in the same day? Bitter much?

And just so people know, I’m not wealthy at all and I still go here. However because of co-op, I am opening an IRA before I even graduate.

I don’t think Northeastern is the right fit for anyone with “Rural” in their user name
Yet the 02120 part of his user name is the zip code for Roxbury?
