and I also want to know what type of safety schools i should look at

Some of the other colleges I'm looking at are Boston University, Boston College, Manhattan College, Fordham, and Syracuse just because I am from there

I'm guessing the two other Bostons are reach schools for me but i need to find a safety school

BU, BC, Northeastern? which boston?.. and I have another question. How do people normally weight classes in a 4 point scale. My school usually just goes by percentages to find our average and the weights for honors is 1.05 times your grade and for ap its 1.07 times your grade. My gpa doing it that way only turns out to be 88 or 89 but if I use 4s for my As and 3s for my Bs and so on it turns out better. How would colleges look at my transcript and average?

What are my chances if I don't improve my SAT scores.. because I don't think I will be able to take them in October or November. October 8th I am going to be on a trip and November 5th is cross country championships.

Should I retake the ACTs and study for them this time? I might be able to take them in October

Mid range stats for NE according to nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cool are verbal: 550-640, math 570-660. You seem to be well within the sat range in verbal and over the 75% for math. I do not know if they are considering the writing score for admission, so you may want to call and check. Frankly, I think your score looks very respectable in writing anyway.

would it help that i am planning on majoring in math? My math score on SATs is obviously the best and I got a 36 on the ACTs for math. Would that make it easier or would they not consider what major I am applying for?

KK I do not know. I know that some of their schools are more competitive. You may want to read some under the NE archives here. In fact there is someone who was admitted for this Sept. who's parent posted. This student went in planning to major in psychology and changed to math and it was not a problem (took a few weeks to make the change). If one applies for a less competetive program and then tries to switch schools, that can be much more difficult. There was some discussion about that subject.

I applied to Northeastern this year and I got in with stats far less impressive than yours. I had a 1210 (old sat) with a 89 weighted avg. and no honors classes (2 AP's though). I also received a 5,000/yr scholarship. I'd say you have a great shot-- however, I did apply for Journalism and I don't know how competitive the math program is. Honestly, though, no matter how competitive the program is at NEU, you will most likely get in with a scholarship. (send in your app. early though-- those who sent theirs in late got waitlisted/rejected).

I also applied to Fordham and got in without a scholarship. Fordham is where I will be going next year because I love the NYC life. I felt that Fordham had a competitve and close-knit community which I really enjoy-- NEU is a much bigger school, and less personal which is something you should consisder. But then again, Boston is considered the greatest college town in the country. Another thing to consider is NEU's co-op program where you work for long periods of time-- it does offer you many opportunities that other colleges do not offer but at the same time, it can detract from the "normal college experience". In the end, it's all up to you. BU is also a great school, and if you apply ED you have a great shot.

Yeah, you're definitely in at Northeastern and almost positively at BU, their top quartile of students is around a 30 ACT, so with that you'd be better than about 75% of their current students, I have the same ACT and I'm applying to BU regular decision.
