Hey all! I am a high school senior and I've been accepted to NEU. It is my number two school while USC is my number one. There aren't many forums about NEU compared to USC. How does NEU compare to USC, and vice versa, from a student perspective? Or what are some things about the one you choose that made it a great or wrong choice for you?
Let me know if I should add more info about me. :) Please and thank you!!

oh also what are vibes from each campus, if you can compare...

For one thing, USC is in sunny California! It was 80 degrees this past weekend and was 76 or so today. Can’t beat that. Other than that, my son attends USC and my daughter was just accepted to NEU. I think USC is considered a top school, #21 or so in the rankings and NEU is #49. Good luck to you, as both are good choices.

I know kids at both schools. Northeastern is an excellent Engineering school. I especially like the requirements for embedded intern programs. USC is excellent is some fields. Most liberal arts majors are vastly overrated at USC. Engineering is excellent. Cinema the best in the world by a large margin. USC will charge outlandish tuition and fees because they think they can. They will nickel and dime you for four years. Be prepared to spend an hour a year on hold trying to straighten out billing and accounting screw-ups. Yes the weather at USC is very good, but you are still in the middle of Watts, the worst part of LA. Beaches in LA are great, but you will have to get though 45 minutes of traffic to get to any of them. Boston is a great city, but anyone who lives through this winter may have different opinions. Depending on your priorities, you can have fun in either or both places. Can be a great place to go to school, but be sure you have a good fit.

School rankings are marketing BS. Key issues are 1. Your major 2. Can you get a job in your major from that school 3. Why are you paying so much, is it worth it? 4. Does the alumni REALLY help you? Many USC grads have done well, many are making Lattes at Starbucks. The college ties only get you so far.

I do not know what USC ever did to you, but USC is not in the middle of Watts. The main campus of the college is in University Park/Exposition Park and is part of the city’s Downtown Arts and Education Corridor. The area around the university is being re-developed with USC money in a billion dollar project.

Personally USC is the obvious choice. It’s much more highly regarded in almost all fields, it has limitless opportunities to travel abroad, and it’s in sunny California. Northeastern is slowly gaining credibility and has nice co-op opportunities but I would never pick it over USC.
