Northeastern University Scholars Program

I just got an email about getting invited to a new program NU started. Apparently it includes a full tuition scholarship.

"I'm writing to inform you that, because of your outstanding scholastic accomplishments, we are inviting you to join the Northeastern University Scholars Program in its inaugural year. We believe this new program will be the most intellectually bold and distinguished undergraduate scholarship program in the country."

Has anyone heard or know anything about this because I can't find it anywhere online. Thanks

I received the same email. I’m guessing Northeastern is aiming to be more competitive as a growing university. $37,840 a year (current tuition) sounds pretty good :)

What were you stats?

I got this e-mail too. Does anybody have any information to what this program entails?

Had you already received an acceptance letter from them? What are your stats? I am just curious if these e-mails are going out to regular decision applicants. Thanks

BTW, congratulations!

Bjorn1: I received a decision from them during the EA round. Cold stats are 2300 SAT (780M, 770CR, 750WR), 5/480 rank, 800 Math II/760 French, National Merit Finalist, 4.0UW/4.33W (IB Diploma).

Did your original acceptance include any merit scholarship money?

Kiddie: My original acceptance included the 20k/yr scholarship.

Don’t they have a free tuition program already for NMSF?

From the NEU website:

Admitted freshman applicants who are designated National Merit Finalists or National Achievement Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) are eligible to receive full tuition scholarships from Northeastern.* Scholarship recipients must be U.S. citizens or documented permanent residents, admitted to Northeastern and should designate us as your college choice to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by April 13. We will award our first group of scholarships in early March to students who were admitted Early Action. In addition to designating Northeastern as your college choice, you may send Northeastern a copy of any certificates or letters that you receive from the NMSC for your admissions file. These documents can be submitted to Undergraduate Admissions via fax or email. Fax number: Undergraduate Admissions, 617-373-8780 Email: Iliana Figueroa, i.figueroa@neu.edu.

Northeastern National Merit and National Achievement Scholars will also be invited into The University Honors Program.

*Northeastern will combine any scholarship(s) which Finalists receive from NMSC with the Northeastern award to total full tuition. In 2010, approximately 100 National Merit Finalists and National Achievement Finalists enrolled at Northeastern with full-tuition scholarships.

So have all the emails been sent out or do I have a chance? Is this only for merit scholars?

Kiddie: Yeah, there is a full tuition available to NMF; however, this is something else.

This e-mail was about a new University Scholars Program which is in its “inaugural year.” It also specified that it is offered to 50 incoming undergraduates and has a full tuition scholarship of its own.

“The Northeastern University Scholars Program is a full tuition scholarship program limited to 50 incoming undergraduates who, like you, have not only distinguished themselves in academics but have displayed an entrepreneurial approach to study, achievement, involvement, and life.”

AvgAzn: Stats are SAT: 2280 (720 CR, 800 M, 760 W), SAT II (800 Math II, 750 Chem), 2/153, 3.95 UW, not sure about weighted gpa because school does not tell that, but 7 APs.

bjorn1: I was accepted early and it had said 20/yr + honors.

So can I expect to meet either of you two (Justforacomment or Sarquois) on March 18/19?

I also got this email yesterday!

bjorn1: I applied and was accepted through Early Action and received $20,000 per year and an invitation to the Honor’s Program as well.

Stats are ACT: 34…4.0 UW GPA and 3/~85

I got the email too! Very exciting!

I applied EA and received $20,000 a year plus the Honor’s Program

Stats: 2100 SAT, 33 ACT, 3.82 UW GPA + 8 AP classes

I got invited to this program too! I am attending the March 18th-19th visit.
I applied EA and got the $20,000 Dean’s Scholarship and an invitation to the Honors Program.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there is any special housing for the Scholars Program?

I got this too! I think i’m gonna go to the Scholars Program weekend too…
Stats:
2280 SAT, 3 AP’s Junior year, 4 AP’s senior year, 790 Math Level II, 780 Biology M.
Unweighted GPA around 3.8 ish

ANYONE ELSE GOING TO THE WEEKEND?

[The Northeastern University Scholars Program](University Scholars Program - Northeastern University)

all the info you need

My D received this as well - it certainly came out of the blue! The program itself is still quite unclear, even after looking at the information on the NU website. We would love to attend the weekend, but not sure if we will be able. I am a bit confused about the program’s limitation to 50 students – do you think the offer has been made to more than 50, with hopes of approx. 50 accepting?? It seems a little odd that if only 50 offers were made out of however many thousands of applications NU receives, that at least 6 of the 50 offers made were to posters on this CC thread??

The program itself sounds very interesting and the full tuition is fabulous!!

My son did not receive the e-mail. Over 2300 SAT 4.0 GPA 7 APs now a National Merit Finalist. Unless the e-mails are still coming out they may have limited it to just over 50. Has anybody received an e-mail in the last couple of days or did they all come the same day as the OP?
