Northeastern University Spring 2016 Transfer

Hello,

I am currently in the University of Delaware’s Honors Program and am considering transferring to Northeastern University in the Spring of 2016. I’m planning to major in Economics. I feel like i’m right on the edge of being properly qualified, I was wondering if someone could give more of an objective opinion of my position.

Current GPA: 3.5
High School GPA: 3.75
I’ve been on the Dean’s list for every semester so far, and expect to be until I transfer.
I’m currently in three politically oriented clubs, a volunteer club, an economics club, and a film club. I hope to have a leadership position in at least one of these clubs by next semester.
I write for a school publication, as well as a separate online publication for which I’m paid.
I’m an Eagle scout, and have regularly volunteered before and during college.

I can see why you would feel that you’re borderline, however, keep in mind that you’re coming from an honors program. They look at how rigorous your curriculum is along with your grades. Therefore, your GPA is still competitive. It also depends on the length of time you’ve been in honors as well. By the way, do you mean Fall transfer 2016 or Spring 2017? I’m confused on that. Anyway, you have a strong extracurricular and work background. What you should do is formulate those successes into a well-structured resume. That will sincerely help you out. I’m impressed by your record. Now what I challenge you to do is speak with professors who teach your major so that you can possibly get recommended by them. You seem to be in the area so you should try your best to go to the transfer session I think on March 18th. If you’re unable to then you can schedule an information session whenever you want on the NEU admissions website under “Connect With US”. I feel that you have a great chance. There’s more to record than just a GPA. They claim to look at your record holistically. If you have just a semester or year of classes then they will focus on your HS & college record. If you have 1 1/2 to 3 years then they will look mainly at your college record. Also, your essay is extremely important as well. Don’t worry. If you explain yourself and demonstrate that you fit with the rigor and campus opportunities, I don’t see why you wouldn’t get in. I hope I helped.
