Northeastern University

What are my chances of getting into Northeastern? It’s my top choice.

I applied ED and I want to study pharmacy.

My GPA from Freshmen-Junior year is actually awful: 3.13 UW and 3.58W
My GPA from quarter one Senior year is: 3.5UW and 4.17W
My senior classes:
Honors Anatomy and Physiology: A
Honors Neurobiology: A
AP Literature: B+
AP Psychology: B
AP Economics: B+
Calculus: B+
So major improvements there does that show anything to admissions?
My SAT score is an 1830 and 1270 (math+reading).
My father got his masters at Northeastern.
My father’s old professor is also a close family friend and he is writing me a letter of recommendation.
I know my teachers wrote great recommendations about me and my personal essay is really unique.
Current Extracurriculars: Amnesty International Club, Garden Club, Food Justice Club, Feminism Alliance, Guitar, Photography
Sports: Dedicated to crew (rowing) I’m on varsity, just completed my 5th season.
Leadership: I was captain of my crew team sophomore year.
Volunteer: I participate in a bi-annual clean up for the town that I row in, I volunteer at a women’s shelter

Any thoughts? Please be honest! Also if anyone knows: How much does applying ED help?

Your GPA isn’t that bad. I couldn’t find the average for Northeastern but I think if you’re at least in the top quartile of your class you’ll at least be okay. Although you don’t have straight A’s, your rigorous class schedule makes up for it at least. Major improvements are a big plus to college admins. It’s good that you’re legacy too. You need to get that SAT up a bit higher though. Your ECs are definitely respectable. And leadership is good. And it definitely helps your chances applying through ED.

Overall, you’re a good applicant. Just get those SATs a bit higher and work REALLY hard on those essays. Judging by what I’ve found online, you have a good chance.

Your GPA and SAT make northeastern a reach. You are below the 25th percentile of enrolled freshman for both.

imo your stats (gpa/test wise) would make it somewhat challenging to get in. did you make improvements in junior year? or was it just senior year? itd be hard to tell just from your senior year record but if you did then that’d be a plus. (i dont think 1 quarter’s worth of grade is enough to base improvement on)
your ecs look decent so like asju9511 said, if you have good essays, you’d have a chance.

Can you afford first semester abroad?

@ClarinetDad16 I probably could, but I’m not sure if the pharmacy program allows that

@lazyestbum here are my stats:
freshman year: 3.11UW, 3.5W
sophomore year: 3.33UW, 3.67W
junior: 3.11UW, 3.58W
junior year I was part of an all year round varsity sport and struggled with anxiety; I talked a little bit about my anxiety and how I’ve pushed through it in my essay so admissions has a little bit of background on my previous crap grades

I’m not quite sure about your chances. I would look at http://www.northeastern.edu/admissions/application-information/academic-profile/ to see the stats for last year’s admitted class, and then think about what you can do now to get yours to match up.
I applied to Northeastern as well (EA) so this is mostly a good luck post to you! Hopefully we can both get in!

You have been given several chancings and shown the link to last years enrolled stats. Northeastern is a reach. What more do you want?

your sat and gpa fall below the 25th percentile which is the only thing i can see holding you back, but you have a rigorous schedule, lots of ec, leadership and the legacy status will help alot! overall i still think you have a very good chance:)
side note: feminism alliance is a very good factor for application, as northeastern is probably a liberal college and this would give you an edge.

That is what makes Northeastern a reach!

Update: I was accepted!!!

congrats:-))-!!

thank you!!
