Hey guys, I am a high school junior and I want to go to college in Boston for business. My first choice would be Northeastern.
GPA: 4.1 (weighted) hope to bring it up even more in second semester!
Class Rank: 30/315
Extracurriculars: FBLA (Future business leaders of America) running for president of the clubsenior year; baseball sophomore, junior, and senior years; Varsity Track sophomore year: basketball freshman year
Community service: I am going to be mentoring an incoming freshman soon and will most likely be umpiring at my local youth baseball league. I also have a part time job in retail
SAT: have not taken the 2016 sat yet, but got
600 on reading/writing and 580 on math (the new sat is out of 1600)
Any comments about chances of getting in would be greatly appreciated as well as tips on more things to do to beef up my resume during the rest of my high school career. Thank you!
Make sure your FBLA involvement is very serious; also (obviously) attempt to increase your SAT score.
Your input is much appreciated! Thank you! What do you think of my chances of getting in?
With your current SAT, your chances are low; the middle 50% two-part SAT scores are 640-730 CR and 660-750 Math.
If you could increase each of your subscores by 100 points or more, your chances would greatly increase.
What’s your unweighted gpa? I know northeastern was very competitive this year as they revived a lot of qualified applicants. Your SAT scores would need to go up at least a 100 points to be in the rage. Maybe consider BU as its still a good school but less selective and perhaps more attainable for you. Best of luck!

Okay so increase SAT scores. I will try my best thanks guys! Hssenior27, I think your chances are good but my input is not at all credible because I’m not even out of high school, sorry!
@hssenior27 is BU good for entrepreneurship? My dream is to run my own business after college.
If you are looking into entrapeneurship, have you also considered Babson? It’s #1 for that
BU is less selective ? My S got into Northeastern and wait listed by BU.
BU had their largest ever pool of applicants in 2016 and greatest selectivity every.
NU has also trended to higher requirements. I know students there now, who say
their HS grades/tests are much lower than incoming freshmen, and that “they could not get in now”.
I say 100 points higher is borderline for both schools, from my recent experience visiting and S applying to both.
This happens in both directions to many students - they put different emphasis on each part of the application. By pure admit rate, NEU is 3.5% lower. By stats, NEU also has the slight edge.
So did Northeastern to be fair (as far as I have seen from unofficial numbers)
@liamsully
For your goals / entrepreneurship, I would say Babson > Northeastern > BU academically, though Babson is not the same city school that NEU/BU are. I would certainly apply to all three.
What others said here is true - you need to bump up your test scores significantly. Northeastern’s average 1600 before the new test was over 1400 - while the new test could be a lower grade, it won’t be that much lower.
Good luck!
