Hi, I have been accepted to all these schools, but can´t seem to make up my mind.
I am an international student (21yrs old veteran) and I am going to study business/finance. (undecided)
I guess I was a bit lucky and had a good application as I only scored 1250 on the new SAT and had a 3.3 GPA.
My previous dream school was Babson because of their entrepreneurship program, but I am getting more and more uncertain that entrepreneurship is the right path… Northeastern and their coop seems amazing.
I am also a bit worried about the social life on Babson and Wellsley in addition to babson being a liberal arts school.
I have visited all schools so I know there are som elementary differences like size, campus and location.
Which school is best academically and which one would you choose of these and why?
All three are strong in business, and you’ve highlighted even the differences there well. I think if you aren’t sure on entrepreneurship, given your other two great options, focusing away from Babson may be helpful. Both Northeastern and Babson will keep the entrepreneurship doors wide open.
I’m a Northeastern student so consider my bias announced, but the great opportunity with co-op is that you can try out different areas of a field and see what you like before you graduate. For someone with a general direction but with uncertainty, nothing is more helpful than 6 months in a possible setting. No matter what, you learn something about yourself. Either you enjoy the job, you don’t, or some aspects are good. And instead of having to learn that at graduation, you get to go back to classes and redirect yourself based on what you’ve learned. All while getting good experience and good pay to help set up your career. The co-op program is the real deal tried and true for all of my friends and myself. I’d pick Northeastern for that, Boston as an amazing city, and that you don’t have any social or academic reservations about it, unlike the other two. That’s a sign of a good fit to me.
Good luck! All three are excellent choices in the end. I’d be happy to answer any questions. I’m not a business student but can help with general NEU questions.
Thank you for you answer!
Well I do have som reservations about NEU, but maybe you can prove them wrong. When visiting NEU it did not seem as personal. What i mean by that is will the professors recognise you, know your name etc? How about class sizes?
@GeneralSkruf Babson College, I believe, is all about business and is known worldwide for their entrepreneurs. Babson College is a lot smaller compared to Northeastern University, but NEU has a larger faculty to make up for that. You can’t go wrong either way. If you want to be an inventor or create a business. I would check out Babson. If you want to be an employer for a well known company, go to Northeastern. They got those co-ops.
You can’t go wrong either way as both are strong in business. Good luck with their decision.
@GeneralSkruf For some of the basic intro classes you will find large sizes (basic macro/micro, maybe 1-2 others) but otherwise most classes will be 50 or less, as few as 20ish. If you take the time to ask questions or come to office hours in those size classes, professors will recognize you. Even in those large lectures, come to office hours and they still may know you.
In general, you’re correct that Babson would be more personal, but Northeastern in my experience isn’t too large where you get lost in the shuffle. The only time the school will ever feel that large is dealing with occasional administrative bureaucracy, but never professors.
