So...I got into both colleges with Business as my intended major, and now I'm stuck as to which one to go to. Here are the three main arguments keeping me on the spot.

o1.] NEU has good academic options in terms of business majors, but its urban location is rather alarming to me. (In addition, I'm not even sure if I want to pursue a business-related path at this point.)
Financial aid package is pretty solid, with a Dean's List 15k for freshman year and $7,500 per semester (I think) for the upperclassman years. Total aid package totals to about 60k over 4 years.

o2.] Lafayette has less concentration in business (just one economics course) but a beautiful campus (and it's quiet and in the middle of nowhere, which is a plus to me). It also has the higher financial aid package (Marquis Scholar, 16k per year). Total aid package totals to around 64k over 4 years.

o3.]There's also the added factor that I'm actually planning to defer a year before going to college. Financial aid is a pretty big factor for me here, and the two schools differ on that respect, too.

-Lafayette has said that it will kept my scholarship intact for next year.
-NEU said that they would have to reconsider the scholarship request if I defer, but that it shouldn't be too big of a problem.

Based on what you have said it seems like an easy decision to me. Disclaimer: My son will be attending NEU in the fall. He was waitlisted at Lafayette (immediately declined the spot on the WL). His view was opposite to yours. He loves Boston and prefers a larger school over a smaller school. In your case, if you don't like Boston and Lafayette's small beautiful and comparatively isolated (it is still convenient to NYC - about 1.5 hrs) campus appeals to you, I honestly don't even see why you are conflicted, especially given the superior financial aid package and willingness to defer your admission with full finaid. I don't know how the acadmeic offerings compare (I know Lafayette is a very fine school overall) but from their website: "Economics and business is the largest of Lafayette’s academic programs," so I would be really surprised if they didn't meet your needs academically.

NEU's applicant pool gets bigger and better every year, so the financial aid they're willing to offer one year isn't necessarily the same they will offer the next. The general consensus is that they're pretty sketchy with financial aid all together. I wouldn't depend on them for it.

I've chosen northeastern based mostly on the location and the co-op. Since neither of these things seem to be that exciting to you, and you do express excitement about Lafayette, it seems like youd be happy there. Good luck!

Beware - Hopeful0607 is correct. Our s deferred one year and he only got 50 % of the scholarship that he was originally offered had he not deferred a year. He just finished his freshman year and loves NEU though!
