Any thoughts on which is the better school?
My daughter got $14K in merit aid from Loyola and $8K from Northeastern.
I can afford the first one if we eat cat food. I don't know about NEU and I am worrying. NEU hasn't sent me the entire fin aid package yet, so I still have to wait and see.
What do you all think?

We are in the same situation. S also got accepted to Nova and BU, both with a little money. Loyola offered the most and I think is the best match for him in terms of what he wants to do. The thing I liked best about NEU is the co-op program. I felt that would give him an edge up in the real world when he graduates. Then again, that willl be in another 4 years so who knows how things will be then.

Out of all the schools Loyola really made an effort to engage him. I love all the communications and their philosophies. They even sent an invitation to the merit award kids and their parents for a dinner during the accepted student open house. Nobody else did that.

If you go by the Forbes list Loyola is higher rated. It is also listed as a top 50 value for private schools and I don’t think NEU is on that list. It is right behind Nova in Masters level universities according to US NEWS and World Report. I think overall Loyola is better

Good luck

Thank you for your reply. My daughter is convinced that she wants to go to NEU, but we’ll see what happens after the Open House this weekend. Maybe she’ll change her mind, maybe she won’t. I just hate to have to say “no” because of money, but that is of course the reality. Good luck to you and your son, too. Thanks again.

As someone who lives in Maryland and is pretty familiar with Loyola, I would say Northeastern 100%. Northeastern is SUCH a better school. A lot of the students at my school who apply to in-state schools always apply to UMCP, UMBC, and Towson but for some reason they avoid Loyola. I know these seem like stupid reasons, but if your daughter got into NEU then you should send her there.
