Northeastern vs RIT for Visual Art Student?

I got accepted into Northeastern’s NU.in program CAMD ($6,800/yr scholarship) and RIT’s CIAS ($10,000/yr scholarship) and as a future art student I was wondering what school would be the best fit for me. I am looking for the school with the stronger art program, better connections (co-op, study abroad experience, finding a job after college), and to get an idea what the experience is like at both schools. I am going into their art schools undecided, but am leaning towards a type of digitized media, like graphic design. Could use any advice about either or both schools.

Speak to the schools you are interested in about recruitment.

D has 2 friends who graduated with degrees in graphic design last May.

Her friend who graduated from CMU was recruited by several tech companies for high salary positions. Reps from the companies came to the school and interviewed students on campus. She is working for LinkedIn in SF.

Her other friend graduated Northeastern. While she was able to find a graphic arts position in SF, there was no recruitment and she needed to pave her own way. She got a decent offer, but far below the salary of her recruited friend.

My D looked at both schools for animation. RIT really seems to get you career-ready and they were opening that new MAGIC studios soon which should get a lot of interest from recruiters. She did not end up applying to RIT just because of the distance from home and she wanted a more urban environment but we loved their program and facilities. When we met with some of the faculty they mentioned that the co-op aspect doesn’t work as well for art students because projects they work on, like films, don’t always fall in the right time frame and are not as flexible as other programs. But graphic design may be different as you could be working in a more office-type environment.
My D just got accepted to Northeastern for digital art/game design and is weighing her options. You just don’t think “Northeastern” when you think of art/animation but RIT really seems to be making a name for themselves in this area.
Best of luck with your decision!!
