Temple University: I was accepted into both the university honors program and the fox business school honors program with a full ride scholarship! I would be majoring either in international business or economics. I love Temple’s diversity but I grew up around philly so I would also like a change. Obviously a full ride is very difficult to turn down but I want to be sure I’m getting the best possible education.
GWU: I would be majoring in Elliott in International Affairs with a economics minor or concentration. I also recieved a scholarship for about half of the tuition, but it’s still pretty expensive. I love DC and the Foggy Bottom campus and I’m very interested in politics. I’m just a little concerned about the diversity.
Northeastern: I would major in economics. Also received at 14,000 scholarship but this would be my most expensive alternative. I love Boston and don’t mind going far away from home. The co-op program also appeals to me. This is probably the highest ranked school of the three, which is also worth considering.
I would just love recommendations and advice on the different programs I’m majoring in and how they compare. But any insights on these three schools would be amazing. Thanks so much!
I’d take the full ride at Temple unless your family can easily afford the other options (without hardship/debt),
You can do a semester or perhaps even a year abroad to get a different experience.
And FWIW my S went to a college nearby our home but in the city rather than the suburbs where he grew up – he had a great experience and loved exploring the city with his college friends as an adult. We did have a serious talk before he decided to attend and H and I agreed to treat him as if he were hours away (ex. not popping by to say hi, not expecting him home for every little thing etc.) and he promised to immerse himself in campus life and not to use home as a crutch (ex. no coming home all the time on weekends, no coming home to do laundry etc.). It worked out wonderfully for us.
Where the money is coming from is key here. If it’s loans or will cause your family any trouble, Temple all the way. If you can swing it though, I think GWU/NEU offer more, especially for what you’re looking to do.
GWU would cost me about $28,000 tuition a year and Northeastern would cost me about $33,000 a year in tuition. Room and board and fees aren’t included but I’d they’d be similar at each school. They would pay for the majority but I want to pay them back as much as possible.
