Hi there, this is my first time using this website for advice but I have a predicament.
I was accepted by both Tufts and Northeastern.
Northeastern accepted me into their honors college,
but Tufts gave more financial aid.
I am interested in Engineering and maybe business.

Do you think Northeastern is worth paying a lot more for?

Isn’t Tufts the better school in general? I wouldn’t get fixated on engineering-major rankings, I’ve found that those aren’t particularly important.

You say you’re “interested in engineering and maybe business”. This sounds exactly like someone who will change majors at some point. Take the full ride at Tufts. It’s a strong school overall, and that price can’t be beat.

Is this a joke? Haha just kidding but in all seriousness take Tufts. Beautiful campus unbelievable school. I will be heading to NEU next year but Tufts is my dream and with that money it can’t be eat

In all likelihood I probably will go to Tufts. I just really liked Northeastern’s Engineering/Honors/Co-op/Business opportunities. I am fairly certain that engineering will be my main focus, which is why i am concerned as Tufts isn’t really known for it’s engineering programs.

If you definitely want engineering, I’d take Northeastern. If you want to be around really smart people in a liberal arts environment, I’d take Tufts. They are very different.

Last Decade: Northeastern vs. UMass
Last Year: Northeastern vs. B.U.
This Year: Northeastern vs. Tufts
Next Year: Northeastern vs. MIT
Next Decade: Northeastern (full pay) vs. Harvard (free ride)

Just found this thread and am looking for this kind of info; have been reading the Tufts and NEU threads only.

To the OP- go to Tufts; it’s a free ride!

My d has a similar quandary–she got into Northeastern’s honors program as an undeclared major with $20,000 per year dean’s scholarship and then just got designated a Global Scholar and she got into Tufts and Smith (among others, but these are the top ones). She wants to be in Boston and loves the co-op program but…She’s interested in psych and sociology which all schools have but is also interested in cognitive science and a strong women’s gender program which NEU definitely doesn’t have and Smith kind of has. Tufts seems to have a closer community than NEU (of course, NEU is huge)and my d is very interested in social activism.

RE: money even though NeU gave her the great scholarship, it’s not a “meets need” school, so our costs will go up and they gave her more fed loans than Tufts. She got a nice grant at Tufts and Smith (1 year), and I feel they offer price protection (if our financials stay about the same, our need/aid will.

So can anyone offer any opinions on Tufts vs NEU for the above mentioned majors?
