Northeastern vs. U. of Miami

Hello, I got accepted in both. I dont know which one should I go. Please consider that I am planning to do a major in the Business area. I love Miami as a city, but I dont know if it UM will suits me well for my Business and entrepreneur aspirations.

Anyway, please help me decide.

Congrats on your acceptances. Does U of Miami have a coop program? Because this is Northeastern's distinguishing feature. If both do, then go for the place that suits you best. The weather in Boston is a far cry from that of Miami, and so is the social landscape!

Things to consider:
Do you plan to start your career in a particular geographic area?

Since you are worried about UMiami re business/entrepreneurial aspirations, check (via website or telephone conversation) on things like where their undergrad Business majors end up working, who recruits on campus, % who have jobs lined up as of March-May of senior year.

My S chose UMiami over Northeastern as a biochem major. That said, had he been intending to study business, I think the choice probably would have gone the other way. I think you can get a great business education at both schools, but I think NEU's co-op program offers easier access to more business opportunities. Business co-op is NEU's strenght. I do think your desired geographic location after graduation should be considered. If it is the southeast, then UM is probably the place, anywhere else and I would give the edge to NEU.

jmmom makes some great suggestions. Here is a link to a list of companies that recruit at UM.

In the end, go to the school where you feel comfortable and can be happy and thrive in the classroom and the rest will fall into place. Both schools are good choices and you can have a very successful career with a degree from either. Good luck.
