please..
i got into both of them, which are my top choices~
im goin to do premed and i know that u of r is very strong on it~
northeastern isnt too bad even tho its not particularly good on it.
but the thing is that U of R only offers me 6k scholarship while Northeastern offers 15k..and their tuitions are abt the same..
i kind of thought location wouldnt matter, but now i realized that location matters a lot~and i kind of like boston~
but U of R is a very gooood school.

wat do u think? which one should i take??
thank u!!~

Oh boy that's a hard one. Do you like the co-op program at Northeastern? Because that may be a make or break issue - it's pretty intense, and it is really what they are all about. I don't know anything about the pre-med program at Northeastern. Maybe you should be sure to check out where their graduates get into med school, at what rates, and how does the co-op program dovetail into pre-med. (Call and ask! They must have a pre-med adviser of some sort.)

Don't forget the cost is greater than it appears, because at Northeastern you should be able to earn pretty good money on the co-ops. Not only that, but your employment opportunities might be much better than what you might otherwise snag over the summers.

At U of R you will be in with about a million other pre-meds. At moments it will feel like the entire school is premed. Will that drive you nuts? Also, I think it has a less diverse student body than Northeastern. U of R will be heavy on NYC/Long Island/NJ kids, Northeastern will be moderately heavy on Boston, but I think beyond that will have more of a mix. (And, I suspect, a greater economic mix.)

Of course the locations are absolutely incomparable. Northeastern's just can not be beat.

I saw many pre-med students who were accepted in great universities went to university which gave them financial aid or had lower tuition like state university since what matter is not name of undergraduate college but getting a high GPA and MCAT score. I think if you go to U of R, you have to work much harder to get high GPA since it's popular major and there might be more competitions.

Visit on accepted students day- you will be able to make an informed decision after that. Even if you visited the campuses as a prospective student- you learn so much more as an accepted student. Consider the travel- it adds up if you have to fly everytime you want or need to go home. Rochester is a cold, gray place- Boston is too in the winter- but spring comes much sooner in Beantown- if that matters to you. Congratulations on your acceptance to two great schools!

thanks ppl!! u really help!~
weenie,u are so good:) the money and location Northeastern has are the things making me leaning more on Northeastern. i wish i could ask current students and even go visit the campus (like 1anxiousmom says), but i can't coz im in thailand...yes im an intl student. so im asking ppl by email..hopefully i get more info~
juheer12, i like ur idea of GPA and MCAT score. it makes me really think it over again. coz U of R is such a competitive school i dont kno if i can handle studying as im in high school, which is so much easier.

My older son is a junior at U or R and my younger son is going to start NEU as a freshman in the fall so I know a great deal about both schools. Although I don't know anything about their premed programs I can help you evaluate life at the schools.

U of R is a small school, only about 1000 students per year, 4000 total undergrad. Neu is 3-4 times the size. U or R has a completely enclosed beautiful campus. Neu has an open, city, yet green campus. Rochester provides very little to do off campus. Boston is a fantastic city to be in. U of R is a much higher ranked school, Neu will give you great coop experience.

These are all things to be weighed. A lot has to do with your personality - would you do better in a large or small school, an enclosed campus or a big city, etc. I love both schools but they are suited to different people and I couldn't see my 2 sons switching places.

jwmom just out of curiosity....what type of personalities do your two sons have?? im in a somewhat similar position to kyky and im leaning more to UR than to NEU....but i was just wondering why you cant see the two of your sons switch??

"Northeastern will be moderately heavy on Boston, but I think beyond that will have more of a mix. (And, I suspect, a greater economic mix.)"
Not true. Only roughly 1/3 of NU's undergrad population is from Mass, and a fraction of that is from Boston, you don't see or hear from many people from the city nowadays.

For what it's worth [and I'm biased] I think NU gets the nod here, between Boston, the Co-op and a reputation that is skyrocketing, NU would do it for me if I had to choose between the two.

KemoCGHS, My son at Rochester is more of a shy computer type that likes hanging out with a few friends in dorm rooms and going to movies. He's not into big parties and wild times. Although Rochester has all types of students, they probably have more than the average of the computer/science quiet type and my son made friends right away (in high school he did not have many) and loves it there.

Sorry, the second half of my reply was cut off,
My younger son, that will be going to NU, is very social and wanted a much bigger school in a town that has more to do than Rochester. He also loves rock concerts and wanted to go somewhere that would have many. He has always loved Boston on visits there and fell in love with Northeastern.

so jwmom, are you saying that NU is more like a big party school..? and quiet people, maybe like your older son, who go to NU won't fit into NU easily? do you think it'd be better for a quiet person to go to ROchester instead of NU?
im kind of a quiet person..and hoping to be socializing in college (but not too much). im just afraid that in NU, or Boston there'll be a lot of temptations and there won't be a good academic environment..
but i like boston.....and U of R is soooo expensive for me.

o o ..and does anyone know abt the premed in NU?
