Northern Illinois University

Does anyone have any feedback about the BFA program at NIU. My d. was wait-listed, and then accepted. She's going to go there because unfortunately she didn't get into any of her top choices. But we didn't visit because she didn't have a guaranteed spot and we live out in California. Now she is nervous and unsure and second-guessing herself.

I've heard the school has a solid Theatre program, but would love to hear from anyone who goes there or knows someone who does.

Thanks!

Great School - my high school acting teacher is a graduate from that program and has help her students get into schools like NYU, Juilliard, SUNY-Purchase, Rutgers and DePaul.

Our son was accepted last year this time but choose to go overseas to school. Dekalb is more rural than other BFA schools but only a short 50 minute ride to Chicago. The campus is nice and they are upgrading the facilities all the time. The President of the University, John Peters is a really good guy (know through business) and beleive the experience will definately differnt for a California kid.

I went there for theatre camp for three years. The program is great, but the amenities kinda suck. The dorms are a good 30 minute walk away from the academic buildings (including theatre). Some of the dorms are horrific and tiny so try to do some research and turn your housing in on time. Dekalb is boring and isolated…

I learned a lot from NIU, they focus a lot on meisner and we did some AWESOME exercises, but bring an industrial fan and a bike so you will be able to survive.

Hi, so I’m wondering if your child ended up going to NIU? My child has been accepted and we don’t really know too much about the program either and would love any feedback you could give.

Since it was 6 years ago (and they didn’t post very much) I Doubt ronit is still around.
