Ok so who would I ask about for schools if not for this forum?! Lol …northern Kentucky… It’s on the list… D seems pretty interested for what she knows… Any additional info from anyone? They only audition in December & April & we are not doing auditions in April! So…trying to decide if we should allot the Dec slot …
Not an expert on this by any means, but the few kids I know who go to NKU, went for the musical theatre program, and they are ultra-talented kids. Good luck!
D was admitted and could’ve happily gone. We were impressed by the personal, caring environment as well as level of talent in the production we saw. In fact, it was our favorite, most impressive (in terms of singing, acting, and interpretation) production of Les Mis that we have ever seen, and we have seen many of them, including professional ones and ones from other college programs with a much higher reputation nationally.
The heads of the program remembered a lot of details D, such as her essay(s) for them. All communications with them, including pre-audition, were professional, thorough, and personal.
Students in the program seemed engaged and greatly supportive with each other. They weren’t staring at phones outside of class; they were interacting positively with each other. They also welcomed D enthusiastically.
We know some students there who seem quite happy. There is some crossover of faculty with CCM. Kids from NKU! CCM and WSU all perform together in Cincinnati area professional/community theater casts. I think @raellis123 may have a student there!
We know many kids who have been through that program successfully. In addition to quality training, it has a location close to Cincinnati so you can take advantage of all it has to offer. If you are interested in Greek life, they do have it. D has several friends in different sororities. But I don’t think greek life rules the campus either. Its there if you like, but no big deal if you don’t. I think it is worthy of a look. A lot of kids from Kentucky Governors School for the Arts in choose NKU because they get a great deal because of their GSA scholarship. So lots of talented kids end up there.
Yes, my D is there as a BA-theatre student and loves it. I think I’ve answered questions for @theaterwork before, but glad to answer others. If nothing else a December audition is good prep for the coming batch of auditions. And you’ll know results by Christmas.
D is auditioning in December. We were fully impressed by the program and the students we talked to. They also all seemed to be working in the summers at various summerstock programs. D was GSA and has academic $$ as well. Financially it makes sense. I think that it has become a little more competitive to get in the BFA program.
Also auditioning at CCM, Belmont, WSU, Otterbein (prescreen), Roosevelt, Webster, Ball State.
@Mtmomkbh I sent you a message
