Looks like it's that wonderful time of the year again. I would say the purpose of this thread is to discuss, educate, and enlighten prospective transfer applicants to Northwestern with the ultimate goal of improving everyone's applications.

I would ask that you add what school you are applying to at NU.

To introduce myself, I am applying to Weinberg, likely as a Philosophy and French double major. I applied last year for freshman admission by Early Action and was, regrettably, denied. Currently a freshman at Boston College. Here are some stats:

I am a sophomore at San Francisco State University applying as a rising junior. Applying to McCormick with a Computer Science major. I will also be taking classes to get a Middle East Studies minor.

College classes taken thus far: Elementary Persian, Calc 1-2, Intro to Computer Programming, Physics with Calc 1, Critical Thinking, Oral Communication, Social and Political Philosophy, Elementary Statistics, Microbiology, Social Impact of Journalism, Intro to World Affairs, Conceptual Physics

ECs: Currently employed as a bookkeeping consultant with a financial management company.
Volunteer with a local charity that involves me visiting an elderly individual twice a month (kinda like a reverse big brother program)
Involved with a peer court for campus housing.

My test scores are not that great, that’s for sure. Currently working on my essays.

I don’t know if anybody has the answer to this question; but is it required for transfers from a community college to take either the SAT or ACT in order to apply for Northwestern? I’m interested in the Medill School of Journalism (competitive, I know). I did not take the traditional route of graduating high school either, I left high school early and later took the GED. Are GED scores required as well?

Answers to any of my questions are sincerely appreciated!

Does the fact that I applied to NU as an early decision during my high school year help at all? Also, does the admissions take level of college I am currently enrolled in into consideration??

I really want to go to Northwestern.
Has entrance competitiveness risen a lot compared to 2009?

“but is it required for transfers from a community college to take either the SAT or ACT in order to apply for Northwestern?” - Good question I was about to ask the same exact thing. Anyone?

I got an email a couple days back regarding that northwestern university has everything for my application (completed) and that they have sent my file to the college for review. When will I likely hear back?

I’ve been reading the earlier transfer applicants threads (2008 + 2009) and it looks like most people received their decisions in June. Some earlier in May and others in July:/
So, it looks like we’re in for a wait especially compared to other universities’ transfer decision dates.
