**Northwestern 2013 Transfer Thread**

Vandy sent in the round 1 decisions on Friday via mail. I received it on Saturday (live in Nashville).

Can I choose not to go to the school I paid the deposit?

@alanzhu
Yessss I am sure you can, but your deposit will be gone~

I called the admission today. They said it will start releasing on 5/1. Is it really hard to get into NU?

@alanzhu

Well, considering last year’s acceptance rate was 8.7% and it’s just gone down year after year I’d say it’s not going to be a walk in the park to get in.

Yeah. I would not pay much expectation on NU. If got in, then it would be a big surprise for me.

Did anyone on here apply for Communications??

Anyone Econ?

I applied as Econ major.

I go to a quarter system school. Does anyone know if Northwestern asks for spring quarter midterm report??

just got my rejection from Northwestern 15 mins ago. Transferring from a top 10 liberal arts college, gpa 3.68, SAT 2210, now a sophomore econ major, if that helps. Oh, and my application was complete on March 14.

@jellybabe
I am so sorry for that. Your stats looks really good. so I’d better not put any hope on NW.
Did you get an e-mail or mail?

@jellybabe WOW that really doesn’t look good for me. Good thing I paid my enrollment deposit at Vanderbilt :)

@allisonnian
It’s fine, this whole rejection/acceptance cycle cant hurt me anymore. I got it through email. Don’t worry, you still have chances to get in! I guess they send out rejection first (maybe?),so no news is good news for now.

Looks like transfer process is as difficult as regular admission cycle.

@NorthwesternDad

I’d say it’s more difficult! This year’s RD admit rate for class of 2017 was 13.9%. Last year’s transfer rate was less than 9% and will probably drop even lower this year.

dzarbs & @northwesterndad: there was a NU campus news article not too long ago on how admissions is trying to grow their % of transfers over the last 2 yrs. So many more freshman admits have decided to enroll (“yields”) over the last 8± years, that NU ends up w/less spots to offer transfers. They apparently want to insure that the student body doesn’t turn into a uniform one of 100% kids who’ve attended from freshman yr, and remains one of mixed-experience and background, which I commend on a bunch of levels. All students benefit when exposed to those who have attended other colleges. I just hope my son is one of them. We haven’t heard yet and are on pins and needles, like the rest of you:/ The hopeful part is that he was admitted last year as a freshman (different and more competetive school, major, so we hear), but negative might be that he took time off after one term this fall at a small LAC that wasn’t a good fit. Any others out there with some similar stories/stats?

No news is no news, try not to get hopes up.

Hey there fellow applicants; I’ll give you my relatively meh stats and wish you all best of luck!

HS-
GPA: 3.42 uw/ 4.44 w
ACT: 31
Activities: 11 school productions, 4 semesters of religious ed, part time job, 2 semesters of a service club

College- (freshman)
Hofstra University, Honors College
GPA: 3.94
Activities: a Capella group, Women of Action political action club, first semester only long term service project

I think I had a strong essay with a lot of personal connections to NU from having grown up and gone to high school in a pretty nearby suburb, and I had two professors write letters of recommendation that are likely pretty glowing. Other than that, I know I’m certainly not at the top of the heap and I will hope for the best but I recognize my chances are slim.

@mmille86, i went to high school not far from NU too! where did u go to high school? just to let u know, I went to Lake Forest Academy in case u’ve heard of it before
