Looks like they’re only making decisions after they get final transcripts since I’m on a quarter system I dont know what to expect lol. Won’t get final grades till like June 30

I received my acceptance email on 22nd.

Just in case anyone is interested here is my stats
UVa, math major, freshman
College GPA: Fall Semester:3.98 Spring Semester: 4.0 (for both Midterm Report and Final Grade. I sent in both as soon as they are available)
High School GPA: Singapore Cambridge A’level 4A1B
SAT: 2300
EC: Heavy involvement in high school (leadership position for national event, varsity sports etc), mediocre in college (clubs etc)
Honor: nothing except Dean’s list in College
Recommendation: One from math professor. One from accounting professor. Both great. I am one of the best students in their classes. Additional recommendation for Harvard from a Harvard alumna, who now sits on Brunei Economics Development Board.

Schools applied: Havard, Yale Upenn, Duke, Northwestern, Cornell
All rejected except NU. Thank god NU accepted me!

Did anyone figure out how to pay deposit? As newly admitted transfer we don’t have username ID to log into CAESAR right?

That’s not true, toofast. I didn’t send in a final transcript and I was accepted.

@muaythaiguy18
I am really glad you said so!!! cauz I don’t want to send in my final transcript. It will hurt my chance

@allisonnian Final transcript is not a must-do, but it will definitely help the adcom and expedite the decision. I heard there are people getting in without the final transcript but I also know some who actually are asked to send them it. I guess you can just sit back and wait. If they really need it, they will ask for it. Good luck and hope to see you in NU!

@Muaythaiguy18 hey I am sorry that you are not attending NU…would have wanted to know more transfer student. But do you by any chance know how I could pay the deposit for NU? I could not find any username or portal sort of thing :/

just to sidetrack a bit…
there are two similarly looking IDs on this thread. Muaythaipower and Muaythaiguy18…
interesting…

@Martinruffy it seems we had pretty similar situations, congrats! I never sent in a final transcript but I sent in a midterm report when I applied (all it had was signatures from profs, no grades). Does anyone know what the acceptance rate for transfer students was this year?

@Ibankerhopeful you too! Guess we really have a lot in common! The tuition at NU strains my family’s budget too! And I am also actively looking into IB. From what I heard, NU is decent in placement, especially in Chicago, although it is not on par with Harvard, Wharton etc.
and regarding the acceptance rate, they won’t have a stats until late June since they are doing the rolling admission. My guess is around 9%, roughly the same as previous years if I am not wrong.
Definitely respect your choice, but hope to see you in NU :)

Though I’m happy with the outcome of my transfer applications (Brown '15 :-D), I think the whole process is stupid. Its so subjective, and quite honestly, there were students whose credentials were way more impressive than mine who got rejected. I was rejected by Cornell and Rice, but was accepted by Penn, Hopkins, and Brown (<which are significantly more competitive). It’s such a complex equation and chance is a huge factor. I prefer the way they do it in Asia (where I’m from): the student with the most impressive academic accomplishments and accolades comes out on top. At This point, I just want to see if I get into NU or not, since that could provide more evidence to support my hypothesis that transfer admission is a crapshoot. I’ll be sure to update!

@malleilactone I strongly second that! Sometime I feel the whole admission process is nothing but a crazy game in the casino. Yes you need some basics to get into the game but after that it’s just crappy luck. In this sense, Asia’ meritocracy system is definitely fairer and cleaner!

ps: I really envy your upenn acceptance haha… It was my dream school but now NU is my love :p

@malleilactone If you have already got so many offers, could you just withdraw your NU application? Then the AOs would not waste time reading your material. I assume that they spend a lot of time on everyone’s application since they are sooooo slow.:)

@Traxex: I can’t imagine one application is gonna make much of a difference. I paid the application fee so I think the least I deserve is to know whether I got a yes or a no.

Good luck everyone!

Hey everyone, so I have been reading a little more into the financial aid available to transfer students and came across a statement “during the first year at NU financial aid is not usually available to transfer students”

I was wondering if anyone here has any first hand experience with aid available to the transfers?

Has anyone accepted received their aid package?

Do they foot you with the bill and hope you are able to cover the COA for the first year?

Who out there is still waiting on a decision?

I am still waiting

Still waiting.

Has anyone been accepted to Medill?

I am still waiting, I think this upcoming week is going to be major decision time. The admission offers kept saying by early June, assuming first week of June, so this should be a major week hopefully

I just realized that I did apply for financial aid on my application to NU (sort of scary considering I also just found that they are internationally need aware). I’m not sure if I filled out my CSS or my FAFSA (spelling) forms properly though. I have not heard anything from NU regarding my financial aid application, although they did send me an email notifying me that I will have to apply for a US visa.
If I indicated that I wanted to apply for aid prior to my being accepted, but I did not properly fill out the forms, is it still possible for me to apply for aid? I have tried calling the financial aid office but it seems that there is never anyone available to take my call.
Thank you in advance for any replies.
