**Northwestern 2014 Transfer Applicant Thread**

Hi! I noticed there wasn't a thread for the 2014 Northwestern transfers and I didn't want to wait around for somebody else to make one. I'll start this thread off with my stats:

Honestly gator your chances are very low with that GPA from a non-elite state college. The other thing is you are in college now and your time would be far better spent focusing on your grades because they won’t care about your extracurricular activities unless it’s something of true merit like D1 sports.

I know they’re low but if I want to get out of spending the next 3 years at said non-elite state college I at least have to try!

Well said, gators1995. Here’s wishing you good luck!

I’m also applying as a freshman transfer for the RTVF major. They say on the Northwestern transfer website that transfer rates into that major are highly competitive – anyone know how that compares to the usual 15-20% posted transfer rates for Northwestern?

jkim, Northwestern’s transfer acceptance rate was 8% in 2011. <a href=“Transfer Acceptance Rates at the Top 25 Schools (2011 CollegeBoard) - Transfer Students - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1362873-transfer-acceptance-rates-at-the-top-25-schools-2011-collegeboard.html</a></p>

Don’t know if it went up or went down since but check out the Common Data Set (section D is about transfers): http://enrollment.northwestern.edu/common-data/2012-13/d.html</a>. I also don’t know how competitive RTVF is compared to the overall acceptance rate.

does anyone know when transfers will find out NU decisions? I got an email saying they are made on a “rolling basis,” how long is that?

@wildcatalum yes, but funnily, if you had clicked further into the link you provided, you would see that 2012 - 2013 had a jump to a 12.3% transfer rate. Furthermore, Northwestern had been saying in recent years it wants to expand its transfer acceptance rate because they feel that a certain number of transfer students adds to the diversity of their student body – specifically because, in recent years, general enrollment rates had been higher than anticipated and so they had to offer less spots to transfer students in subsequent cycles. They’ve been trying to cut down lately on the number of regular admissions’ spots offered (just by a bit) to open up more for transfer students – which is great news for us.

@aedinzahara Based off of last year’s transfer thread, rolling basis means anywhere from late April to mid-June. It really sucked for transfer students last year because they had to put down deposits for other schools while waiting for Northwestern just in case they weren’t accepted.

Intended Major: Economics (Weinberg)
High School GPA: 4.72 Weighted
ACT: 34, SATII Math Level 2: 790, SATII Chemistry: 750
APs: 5s: Calculus BC, Macroeconomics, Chemistry, Statistics; 4s: USH, Gov’t, Physics B; 3s: Biology (2013 exam), Lang&Comp
Current College: UIUC Engineering
College GPA (First Semester): 3.97

Activities on my Application:

College Extracurricular Activities (with leadership):

Student Senate (Co-chair of a committee)
A philanthropy club I started (President)
Hall Council (chair position on exec board)
Debate Team
Special Olympics Volunteer
Guitarist in a band
Producer/Videographer for a student run news-show
Staff Writer for a student run magazine

Work:

Research Assistant at an economics research group over the summer

Other:

Founder of an advocacy website

I didn’t have any room on my app for high school extracurricular activities but I mention being in BPA in one of my essays.

Does anyone know if NU requires a final transcript report before they send out results? I’ve seen that they require it in the past but I’m not sure if the mid-term reports required this year were new and ruled out that requirement.

did anyone hear anything back already?

^I have not. This thread should be used more.

I checked last year’s thread and the first reported rejection was April 15th, but most people didn’t hear anything until May.
Last year everyone said they had to wait til NU got their second semester report, but Northwestern hasn’t mentioned that this year so I’m not sure what the deal is there.

Only thing I’ve gotten is an email saying my application has been complete. the waiting game is killing me!!

Its not even the lack of decisions, but the complete “radio silence” thsts hard. No checklist no nothing.

Hello,

I am a pre-med student and I am interested in NU’s summer physics program.
GPA: 4.00
Credits: 60- will be 80 after this semester
Avg: 20 credit hours per semester
EC: human society, meals on wheels, hospice volunteer, and shadowing. I have seen 12 different surgeries and logged over 50 volunteer hours.

Did anyone try calling the Admissions Office to check the time frame for decisions? I am an international applicant and therefore am aversive to exorbitant tariffs.

It would have been very helpful if they posted on the website or emailed us the decision time frame. The wait is literally killing me. :(

From what was posted with last years thread, they didn’t hear anything until mid-May @banker92
