Northwestern and International Students

Hi all.

High school senior from Europe here and I've got a couple of questions:

1.What is the percentage of international students compared to the entire student body?

2.How many of those students receive any kind of financial aid? The reason I'm asking is because on their website it is stated that "a small group of first-year international students receive need-based aid". However, I could not find any numbers about how many students were included in that group.

If anyone has some info to contribute it would be greatly appreciated. As someone who cannot afford the full cost of tuition, I am wondering if I should even apply.

9% of the Class of 2017 is International

I don’t think that number is available to anyone, but it means what it says. It’s considered in your application, and although it doesn’t way TOO heavily, the amount of financial aid you need is factored in.

When you say you can’t afford the full cost of tuition, you need to think about how much you can afford, and if it is a lot then you need to decide carefully.

Same here jeffarse. While you can find on CollegeBoard how many int’ls at high-ranked universities receive aid, the same website says nothing about Northwestern.

On the Northwestern website, they claim that:

“International students receiving financial aid from Northwestern must still plan to contribute to funding their educational expenses. For example, students will be responsible for travel expenses to the U.S. from their home country.”

If they gave travel to U.S. as an example, does it imply that they actually can fully cover(and do fully cover) the more significant costs like tuition and room/board?(for a small group of int’ls, of course).

They rarely cover the full cost of tuition for anybody. My family was pretty much income-less for 5 years, before my dad got a decent (50-60K?) job providing the sole income a few months before I applied. Still pay 6000 on total cost, with a few thousand loans and a few thousand work study. I doubt any internationals are here on full aid considering the normal stinginess
