Hi I was just wondering if someone can chance me for Northwestern. I plan on transferring in spring 2009. I want to attend the school of communications

H.S. GPA-3.5
College GPA.- 3.67(30 credits)
SAT-900/1600(I sucked at the SAT)
EC- volunteering, after school work

I dont know if I will get in, but it has been my dream school. So please chance me. thanks

I agree, your test scores are really bad. Unless you're bringing something extra or unique to the table, your chances of getting in are pretty slim. Especially if you're applying for the winter or spring quarter.

[quote] Can I apply to any school and department at Northwestern as a transfer or returning adult applicant?

Transfer and returning adult applicants may apply to most departments in Northwestern's undergraduate schools for any quarter. Exceptions include the following:

** Medill School of Journalism and the theater and radio/television/film departments in the School of Communication
You must apply for fall quarter. Admission into these departments is highly competitive. Applicants preparing to begin their sophomore year will receive preference over applicants who have completed more than one year of college study. It is also possible that, in a given year, space may not be available.*

Given the highly selective nature for that school,as stated above, I would guess your chances arent very good. However, if you are sure to transfer, I can think of a lot of good schools that you would stand a better chance at(i.e. UNC, Syracuse).

Note that they only accept transfers for the fall quarter, so you would have to wait almost an entire year to transfer(this year's deadline, May 1st, has already passed).

Then again, I'm not sure how accurate my chancing of you will be, w/ all the things that can happen over the upcoming school year...

Yeah, I wasnt sure of what your major was. I assume, though, that the communications major/program is very selective as well, considering it is in Northwestern's top school.

What makes you want to apply for Spring '09(as opposed to Fall '09)?

Medill is its own school. Theatre and Radio/TV/Film are just two of several programs within the School of Communications. I think Yahoo33 means to apply for the Communication Studies major which is not as selective as the above programs. And by spring, I'm assuming Yahoo means the winter quarter. Am I wrong? If you do mean the spring quarter, then you really have no chance. Northwestern rarely takes anyone for the spring. Fall has the most spots. If you chose to apply for the fall, it would give you time to take the SATs again (if you want), beef up your weak ECs, and get your GPA up (no fluff classes).

And alipes07, I know you mean well, but it doesn't really seem like you know enough about Northwestern to chance this kid. Though this whole chancing business is mostly bs anyway. Schools in the same tier seem to look for the same stuff.

The OP didnt specify his/her major, so how am I wrong? Theatre/Radio/TV majors are within the the school of communications.

the School of Communication is one of (if not the strongest) school at NU.

And by the way, steady after school work is a nice substitute for lack of EC's. Ec's really dont matter anyway, as long as you have a few you are fine.

Retaking SAT's for a junior transfer defies the point of taking them, really.

Woesme and alipes07 yes by spring i mean winter quarter. I want to apply for winter quarter because I'm really don't like my school and need to get out of there and Northwestern has always been my dream school. My major is going to be communication studies, I might take my ACT instead of retaking my SAT's. I dont know if thats going to help.

So do you think I should just wait to apply for Fall '09?

Can someone tell me if this is a good schedule or is it too easy. I'm a undecided major so i'm just taking electives and core classes.
