Northwestern-chances w/ other kids applying

I go to a really competitive school, and although I have a legacy (my mom went to Northwestern) and will have some really top-notch alumni letters/interviews, there are at least ten or so students in my grade who also want to go to NU. They have as good, or better stats than me (mine are still high). But I have really interesting EC's and a real passion for writing and international relations (or the two combined). Assuming I apply early decision, and they apply early or regular, what do you think?

WHAT ARE MY CHANCES NOW???

i think you've definitely got a good shot, but you should compare it to past years. i know at my school, 40+ applied to NU last year, and still a very good percentage (relative to the national percentage) got in. look and see how many people NU typically takes from your school and you'll have a better estimate than just a chances thread.

we need to know GPA UW W, SAT 1, SAT 2's, ACTs, and major exc to gauge ur chances. Liz1628, ur peers applying to Northwestern are not your enemies but your allies; use them as sources/resources because the reality of it is there are many many more ppl appyling esp from the rich private schools where schools handwalk kids in

liz -
see if your GC has scattergrams on acceptences from your school at NU; that will give you a general idea what acceptances are like for your school on the numbers. Numbers don't tell the whole story - and the more thoughful your application is, the better for your case!

If money is not a major issue and you are able to apply early, I do have a suggestion. Apply to a couple of likely schools first - before you complete your ED application. Many students feel that their first application is not their best - and you want your NU application to be as good as it can be. Applying to likely schools first will also give you a good foundation if you are deferred in the ED round.
