I am taking the ACT again in Sept. and will not be taking the SAT's (the reading portion kills me). I have good writing skills for the essays and great teacher recommendations. Do you think I have a chance? THANKS!!!!!!!!

looks like a pretty solid shot, if you ask me

your standardized test scores seem a bit sub-par for Northwestern, but the fact that you are top of your class makes me think that you've clearly done as well as your school can offer

out of curiosity, is there a reason why your school's GPA is set up so that even the valedictorian's weighted score is a 4.8?

Being val is a clear strength but the scores are weak for Northwestern which has become increasingly competitive.

We were required to take health, oral communications, and consumer ed. classes that were only offered on a 4.0 scale. Every other class I've taken is on a 5.0 scale.

I'd say your chances are really very good, your standardized test scores are a little bit low but everything else looks awesome. Have you thought of taking the SATs? You might do better on those, science brought you down and there's none of that on the SATs.

bet you wish the ACT was superscored, huh?
36,32,34,28 would be nice. 33

if you can increase your ACT by like 1-2 pts i think you wouldn't have a problem

bump

and Northwestern does take the highest scores on all your ACT's to figure your best possible score, at least that's what they said at the info session

Gee, more people than ever before are applying to Northwestern, including myself!

I was wondering, if you have great test scores, great EC's, but an only ok GPA, is it possible to get into NU?

Ya, you're in ED.

bump

thanks for your opinions

another bump

Well your GPA and class rank are obviously impressive, but the one thing I would be concerned about is your AP scores. My weighted GPA is around 4.1, class rank hardly in the top 15%, and I scored a 5 on the AP Euro, US, and English Language, classes I got B's in, so it may be concerning that your GPA is a bit inflated. I don't mean to put you down because you really have a fantastic resume, I'm just being real with you. If you do end up being rejected, which I don't think will happen, that would be the cause in my book.
