Northwestern Class of 2022 ED Discussion Thread

Has anyone ever gotten into Northwestern without writing the “Why Northwestern” essay? I wrote it, but I’m just wondering.

thats interesting… i’ve never heard of anyone getting in without it, but they do say its optional? so maybe? but i know demonstrated interest is considered in admission decisions

I think I heard about someone who seemed completely perfect who got in without it, but that’s it

do you guys think applying for financial aid as an international student significantly lowers my chance?

NU FA website says need blind for US Citizens and Perm Res…need based for International…just call the office and see what they say…each applicant’s situation is unique I wud think…

Getting excited-- and nervous!!

So excited to join this thread! I applied ED to weinberg and I want to pursue pre-med. Anyone know how much the subject tests count? Northwestern was always a dream for me and I was never planning on applying because I wasn’t good enough, but then on my last shot at the ACT I got a good enough score to consider the school. Because of this, I never took subject tests and I didn’t submit any. I know it’s not a requirement, but will it make my application look bad?

@laly84100 - My son was an ED admit and he did not take any subject tests. He was told by an admissions officer that subjects tests are for those that want to show competency in an area that grades & testing did not highlight. There are a lot of variables in admission decisions, and nobody is ever a slam dunk at NU - but you can at least relax about subject tests! Good Luck!

Has the number of ED applicants to NU been posted yet?

nope, i check the daily northwestern every day and it’s not there. maybe they’ll do it on 12/1?

I have also been checking The Daily Northwestern every day. I’m surprised they haven’t posted the number of ED applicants yet because they posted the number on 11/15 last year. I’m hoping they post on 12/1 as jayinspace said but they might not say the number until after decisions are released so they can also post the accepted number

Thanks so much for creating this thread! Anyone else applying to SESP?

@glblhealthnerd I’m also applying to SESP! I haven’t heard of many people applying there on this thread.

@glblhealthnerd @senioritisls Hey! I’m also applying to SESP! What programs are you guys applying to?

@senioritisls @k8lovescollege Social policy!

I applied to learning and organizational change! I love SESP’s programs, it seems like such a great community @glblhealthnerd @k8lovescollege

Did anyone else on here apply ED to a dual degree program? I went for communications and engineering.

2 weeks left!

You may apply to both ISP and Northwestern under either early or regular decision. Please note that early decision is binding. In either case, you should carefully observe both NU and ISP deadlines below. ISP will consider applications received after the deadline, however applying late will put you at a disadvantage due to the limited number of spaces in ISP.
Early Decision Northwestern ISP
Application for Admission November 1 January 1
Admission Decision December 15 January 15
Candidate’s Reply February 15 February 15

If I did not send my application on November 1 instead I send in my application on a day before January 1 for ISP, is my application still considered for early decision or not?

HS sent mid year reports today. Will NU take them into account?
