@dreamivory what school did you apply to ? There have been a lot of students deferred?
@tiger!=vegetarian what school did you apply to- My daughter was also deferred
@Stgmom
what is NM?
Daughter was accepted to McCormick
35 ACT, 1530 SAT, 5th in class, 3.98/4.00 GPA, 16 APs
I was accepted to the college of arts and sciences. To be honest I was shocked when I was accepted, so much so that I teared up! My SAT was 1480, GPA was 4.19, and I had a lot of extracurriculars. I think that my personal statement was what really helped me get in.
With less than a week until ED results, and I’m not sure if there’s one already out there, so I thought I’d make one just in case. Post your stats and
@flowergirl1 congratulations - what school did you apply to?
@flowergirl1 where do you go to high school?
A department of defense school in japan!
And I applied to The Weinberg school of arts and sciences
I applied to McCormick @tedees

Student Body President, 4 years varsity athletics, numerous leadership positions, attended a 3 week camp at NW in middle school
My Common App. Essay was bold but very unique and my why nw statement was good as well, I thought. I have a 3 B’s on my transcript, which could be why I was deferred. Very disappointing though

In all honestly, my academic achievements were in no means what got me in. My scores are good, but below the 25th percentile of accepted applicants. Between the ACT and SAT, I took standardized tests 9 times and my score didn’t change. Besides applying at Northwestern, I applied for Musical Theatre BFA programs. I applied to schools like Carnegie Mellon, NYU, CCM, and U of M, and passed all prescreens. I believe it was my Musical Theatre supplement that got me in because I used my precreens were highlighted my best performance abilities. My advice to students with not as strong of grades and scores that wish to pursue an arts degree at a prestigious university is to make sure to demonstrate your talents in your application as much as possible. The Musical Theatre supplement is a MUST if you wish to do MT at Northwestern. If Northwestern is your #1, be sure to show as much demonstrated interest as possible. I live in Illinois, so I have visited the campus more times than I can count. Good luck to all those who applied in the Regular Decision pool and to those applying next year! Go Cats!
@teedees NM national merit
@tedees I applied to Weinberg. It seems like everyone is getting deferred based on CC, the comments on their social media, and apparently numerous got deferred in my area too which is very uncommon. I had multiple B’s on my transcript which could be why but who knows.
@dreamivory my daughter applied to performance Studies School of communication- and she was deferred we live in Los Angeles -Where do you live?
@dreamivory what does ‘deferred based on CC’ mean sorry
@stressoespresso It is surprising with your GPA and score and ‘Legacy’ that you were deferred- My daughter was also deferred but not a legacy- which school did you apply into and where do you live?
@tedees : They mean that they are inferring that a lot of people were deferred based on how many people are reporting that on CC (college confidential) and other social media.
Deferred from Weinberg. 1580 SAT, 800 math 2, 4.60 Weighted GPA, National merit semifinalist, asian male. don’t know what to think, i really thought my essays were good and that my recs were solid.
it seems in the past that deferrals actually had a solid chance at getting in, but i think the amount of deferrals this year has soared. time to move on.
