@ineedanswers78 I submitted on Saturday and got the portal today
If you don’t get the portal email, just go to the portal sign in page and click forgot password. It will email a portal reset link to your email and then boom you have access. That’s what I had to do
@tedees I live in-state (suburb by Chicago, extremely good school) and I applied to Weinberg.
yay!! applied RD to NU after deferral from Penn
For everyone discussing deferral (specifically theatre), I have some thoughts. I’ve made theories constantly since I got my letter last month, wondering “what I did wrong”. The truth is, only insiders know why the department offered a seemingly large number of deferrals this year.
NU (like other schools) receives a growing number of ED apps annually, making it harder for small departments to control class size (Ex: NU SoC and 100). Deferring more students could help test/see whether it would be in their best interest to accept more of their class in Early Decision. They may also be experimenting, given that they were the last top tier school to integrate deferral into their process.
While chances may be better than they look, take anything you read online with a grain of salt. This time is a gift; do some deep thinking. Regardless of the results I get this coming Spring, deferral pushed me to think more critically about my future, and to work harder in school, despite an overwhelming course load.
I’ll post my stats below as a reference.
1520 SAT (790 Math and 730 English)
UW Senior GPA 3.85
W Senior GPA 4.55
4 APs, 3 this year
AP Com Sci Principals, AP Music Theory, AP Spanish Lang, and AP Stats
National Hispanic Scholar (top 2.5% of hispanic students in the PSAT).
ECs: Arts proctor, head/arranger for a cappella, founder/MC of open mic nights (3/year), co-leader of a student concert series, 4x member of advanced choir, founder of beatboxing club, and student conductor for my choir.
Consistent involvement in productions through tech crew, and musicals. I directed a small student play, and am a 3x varsity athlete in track, having placed fourth in pole vault at the New England Championships.
Two brothers at NU. Worth noting their high school was ranked #1 nationally, and neither applied for SoC.
When I attended Northwestern’s summer theatre program Cherubs, I was constantly surrounded by brilliant performers and kids; you’d be shocked to know how many of them were denied and deferred. My goal isn’t to market myself, but to take pressure off of the many smart and talented individuals who feel lost right now. You are enough.
have any RD applicants been contacted for interview?
DS applied RD (QuestBridge), was contacted late December for an interview. Interview is next week. (TX)
My D was contacted on 1/8 regarding an interview.
Hey guys,
So, I got accepted to Northwestern University Class of 2023. But, I am still in high school and want to drop a course I am currently taking in high school. I was wondering if Northwestern would rescind my application if I drop Band and take on Art. I am looking for a Northwestern student, admissions officer, or just someone who knows the answer. My counsellor says I shouldn’t email Northwestern asking for the answer because it puts a target on my back. I would basically be saying “I want to slack off.” Is this true?
Thank you in advance
Did anyone have alumni interview yet for RD?
@AggieMom68 I did. I submitted on 1/1, got contacted on 1/8, and had interview on 1/12. I live in the middle of a big city though, so I think interviews get scheduled pretty quickly here.
I have my interview on thursday.
My son had his interview today. Went well, that’s all he said
I know that it’s a long while out, but does anyone know around which dates the RD decisions have come out in the past? The website says mid-march, but does anyone have any speculation based on past years?
According to last year’s thread, RD notifications began on March 21.
Has anyone heard back from HPME about interviews?
@chocolatehusky my son was just notified that they are plum out of interviewers for his area.
I haven’t heard anything about interviews yet- will they email me even if there aren’t any interviewers in my area?
@lemonstress23 if you signed up for an interview then yes, they will notify you even if interviewers aren’t available in your area. My son was invited to send an e-mail containing any additional information he would have shared in the interview and it would be included in his file.
Same here
