Update:

This is crazy, but D23 received an email about $30,000 Merit Scholarship at Bienen.

I guess NU gives out merit scholarships after all! We are in shock.

Meant my question about the merit aid decisions release for the USC thread!

Extremely selective schools usually only give financial aid based on financial need, they don’t give other discounts and don’t need to try to attract high stats kids.

We don’t know yet what Northwestern Scholarship means, they just said that and listed $$ amount and said details will follow. But for us it makes it more affordable than the UCs, which would be full pay in state tuition for us.

OK-- it’s need based aid. Northwestern Scholarships: Undergraduate Financial Aid - Northwestern University

I was just curious b/c NWU claims it doesn’t offer merit aid.

Waitlisted. 3.9+GPA, 1550+ SAT, 15+ APs, some olympiads/humanities/research ECs. Really liked my essay so kinda had hopes, but we keep going.

Hopefully your counselor is also aware Northwestern’s ED % of admits and % of entering freshman class is completely in line with Brown, Dartmouth, Duke, Cornell, and Penn. They all favor ED to the point where it is “silly”.

Out of curiosity, anyone here admitted NOT submit test scores? I know TO but wondering how that plays out, esp as COVID test-taking challenges have receded at this point.

It does.

Personally, I liked NW over UMich. Coming from such a small school (only 40 girls per grade) I think Umich might be a little too big. NW seems like the right size. Also, I want to be near a major city–I live ~30mins from NYC. While I loved Ann Arbor, Chicago is a close second to NYC in almost every aspect. Although, I believe UM’s sports journalism is incredible! And I really loved the school spirit+food in Ann Arbor.
