I’m currently a sophomore in high school and I’m exploring things to do next summer. I came across the Northwestern College Preparation Program (the credit courses) and I was wondering is it really hard to get in? Will financial aid cover for rising juniors?
I don’t know anything specific about this program, but in general these college summer programs for hs students are not that hard to get into and do not offer much aid. They aren’t running them to run a deficit. And hence not that hard to get into because mostly only people who can pay for the pricey programs would be applying. But you probably do need a decent hs record; I’m sure they won’t take just anyone.
It says on their site that “A limited number of scholarships will be awarded only to domestic students who ARE CURRENTLY IN THEIR JUNIOR YEAR, demonstrate financial need, and hold strong academic and extracurricular achievement.”
A good life skill is to read things carefully before you ask other people. I added the caps. So, no you are not eligible for any scholarship.
Hi. I participated in the program over the summer this year, although I didn’t take any classes for credit. I believe you needed a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale uw for gpa. You also needed to submit a personal statement and a recommendation from a teacher. It is on a rolling basis and some of the classes do close out, so try to submit it at your earliest convenience. The classes are more what is difficult to get into. The scholarship applications have to be submitted early in next year but I did not learn about the program until after the scholarship app was due. It was a great experience overall. My professor was excellent and you are a student for 2-6 weeks so you really get a feel for the campus. Let me know if you have any questions regarding the program!
