How is this program? My daughter has no plans for the summer and CTD seems to be the only program where deadline hasn't passed. She's only 14, so it's going to be hard to find a summer job at this age. She's already done some volunteer work throughout the school year. She's kind of reluctant to go to CTD because she says 3 weeks is too long. I hear that it doesn't help with college admission, I am thinking...well, wouldn't it still be better than staying home doing all summer? I'd appreciate any feedback from your experiences with CTD summer program or any comment you can provide. Thanks.

I don’t have firsthand knowledge, but have spoken to others who thought it was a good program both academically and socially. My 14 year old son will be attending the first session. He is looking forward to it.

If she doesn’t want to do CTD, what does she want to do instead?

I’m back! So i guess there’ s 2 guys again haha

bklyngal: Thanks. I’m going to try to persuade my daughter to go to ctd.

vs1994: She basically wants to do nothing which worries me

If she had a plan for what she wanted to do otherwise, I would let her go with her plan instead of making her do something she isn’t interested in. If she doesn’t want to do anything… maybe you should talk with her more about the reason you want her to do something. She might start seeing a bit more sense if she sees that you’re not doing it just to be pushy or to get rid of her for a couple of weeks. :D

vs1994: thanks for your comment

What class are you thinking about for your daughter. If she takes one where she will get school credit, it will make her school year easier. When you look at the program,it seems that there is actually a lot of down time where the kids can decide what they want to do. Would she be traveling far to go to Ctd? Has she spent time away from home before?

She’s been to one week long residential camp before and she’s saying that was long enough. She says she’d definitely would go to ctd if it was 2 weeks. She has this fear of being away from home too long which is the reason that I want to send her. I am hoping being at ctd will give her some independence and ease her fear before going away to college. I think she’s looking at classes that is not to intensive, something that her school doesn’t offer. We live within the drivable distance from NW, so we can go see her if needed. I think the first session deadline is today, so we’d have to look into the second session, i guess.

My D did CTD for AP Physics B after 9th grade. It was really intense. I wouldn’t push too hard if she’s not interested, but if she does get interested, it’s a nice program.

collegeworry - my daughter (9th grade next year) hasn’t wanted to do anything past 3 weeks, which would eliminate programs like Ross. She’ll be doing a CTY Biomedical Sciences program this summer and it will be her first. I’m hoping that once she does 3 weeks we can get her to open her mind for other programs too.

Sometimes we have to take baby steps with our kids and focus on one step at a time. Good luck.

classicrockerdad and catnphx - thanks for your input.
