Looking at your stats, I can't see how you didn't get into Wharton. You said ND gave you money. How much is NU giving you?

By the way, Northwestern does not have a business major, only economics. I'll leave Sam Lee to tell you about the Kellogg certs. Gotta love these enthusiastic alums :)

In case job placement is a factor for you, here are stats for ND finance majors: http://careercenter.nd.edu/majorlisting.php?cwebmenu=undergrad&&major=Finance

The student-faculty ratio for Notre Dame is a whopping 16.8, which pales in comparison to Wharton, UVA-McIntire, UM-Ross and NYU-Stern. (Source: http://bwnt.businessweek.com/bschools/undergraduate/07rankings/)

I had the same choice to make as you, no money involved, and I picked Northwestern. I felt there were many more business-oriented programs at NU, and its proximity to Chicago translates into more internship opportunities.

Cross-post this in the Notre Dame forum and see what they say. You should hear both sides before making any decisions.

You can find job placement stats for ND economics, finance, management, marketing, accounting, economics, and management information system at

and decide for yourself if it's good enough. The placement for finance looks pretty good to me. So if you are comfortable with ND and feel ND it's a good fit, I'd say just go there. Don't come to NU just because it's ranked a little higher.

NU doesn't publish such detailed data unfortunately. It does have one of the best econ departments in the country though.

http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/certificate/index.htm is something you can potentially add to your econ or whatever major you decide to pursue. Admission is gonna be competitive however as quite a few would love to have the name "Kellogg" on their resume.

There's BIP minor; there are also business related courses in IEMS department (e.g. financial engineering) or Medill (marketing).

This is off-topic: I was a chemE and my class definitely had better job and grad school placement than this ND class of chemE. :D

does having an undergraduate degree in Econ at Northwestern help the slightest bit in being admitted to Kellogg...

I know its definitely unlikely.. but they are bound to put it into some consideration .. no?
