Congrats to all who’ve been accepted!
I haven’t sent in my spring grades, yet, will a decision still be made on my application, regardless of whether or not I send them?
Also, does anyone have an idea of how competitive McCormick is?
Thanks!

@dingding yep the link works for me! congrats!

@seasons yeah, that could be it too. for another school i applied to, they sent out decisions by the school, so hopefully that’s what it is…

Some info for those still waiting. The transfer admit letter indicated that you have 3 weeks from the date of the letter to accept and submit the nonrefundable deposit for tuition and housing. Thus, it would appear that the next movement will be on or around June 30th.

To clarify, are you saying the next round of decisions will likely be released around June 30th? That seems awfully late…

@crown7 - a “melt” will occur around June 30th. All those that received transfer letters on or about June 9th will have 3 weeks to decide. If they reject NW then a spot opens up and the next in line will be contacted.

So I got in as a freshman transfer with the last batch.

I know there’s a culture of stressing out on college confidential where people start believing that getting into a school is virtually impossible and give themselves ulcers while waiting for a decision.

But while the letter did mention that there were a lot of applicants, nowhere did it say that there was a historically low acceptance rate.

My advice to those who are still waiting: remain calm. I had good, solid stats but nothing spectacular. My GPA was below a 3.7 and my extracurriculars were average at best. I didn’t even submit a letter of recommendation from a professor (I reactivated my account from last year and used my high school one). My only strengths were good test scores and that I was coming from a fairly highly ranked university.

Earlier on this thread it was suggested that the transfer acceptance rate would be ~5%. Trust me, there’s no way that’s true or I wouldn’t have been accepted. A lot of you have great stats and I’d say you still have a good shot at getting in.

Good luck! And I hope to be classmates with a bunch of you next year!

I am almost sure that, the next batch and the biggest one will be around June 22nd, from the rule I found by analyzing old posts-main batch of decision every ten days.

And also, I think a 5% accept rate is fairly impossible. From former years’ stats, halp of the student being accepted enrolled, which means they might want to take 100-125 students from the 1300.

So it is still pretty early and plenty of hope!!!

Guys!! HOLD ON!!!

Is anyone else losing insane amounts of money? Haha, what with admission deposits and housing deposits at other schools (non-refundable), it would almost be easier if NU rejected me… because at least then I wouldn’t be ~$900 in the hole. :~}

anyone hear anything the past week?

Nothing here.

Got accepted today!

mtkinger:congrats!seems I got the rule right~Did you also get the housing info or receive the snail mail directly?

No, I didn’t get any email regarding housing prior to getting the package in the mail today.

If anyone is interested, I submitted my app on the very last day. Also, neither the letter from Weinberg nor the letter from NU as a whole said anything about an unusually low acceptance rate this year or fewer spots available than previous years.

What are your stats if you don’t mind me asking mtkinger?

Anyone considering about housing application? Where do you guys wanna live this fall?

Applied as incoming junior
Current school: Arizona State University
College GPA: 4.00 (4.08 taking into consideration +/- grades)
Major: Finance and pre-med
SAT: 2160
SAT II: pretty damn bad, so I didn’t send them to NU
EC’s: Volunteer once a week at a hospital, member of the pre-health honor society, and I’m a triathlete (train 25-30 hours a week)
Recs: One from my accounting TA who knew me pretty well and one from an econ prof who (despite my best efforts to get to know her) didn’t seem to know anything about me other than I had the highest grade in the class of about 300 kids. I didn’t read either of them. I also had an old high school teacher who I’m very, very close with write a really personal letter.
Essays: For the NU-specific one, I busted it out in about an hour the day before the apps were due. Still, I thought it turned out pretty well.
Applied for financial aid.
High school: 3.9x GPA, a few 4’s and 5’s on APs, played varsity lacrosse

Accepted: USC (Marshall), NYU (Stern), NU (Weinberg)
Waitlisted: Duke
Rejected: Dartmouth, Brown

To be honest, I really felt under qualified, especially compared to some of you who have done independent research, published books, whatever. Especially because I haven’t really done much in college, EC-wise. Triathlon definitely takes up a lot of my life (though I wouldn’t have it any other way!) I feel super lucky to have been accepted to NU considering how accomplished a lot of the applicants are.

Anyways, feel free to ask me any questions!

congrats! i still haven’t heard anything…literally nothing from NU yet…
hopefully i’ll hear something soon.
Has anyone applying to McCormick been accepted? it seems most of the acceptance here were from Weinberg.

@mtkinger: Congrats! Could you please post the date the package went out from the school? Thanks~
I called a couple of days ago and was told the application was still under review. Hope to hear the good news soon, REALLY!!! lol

@mouse9020 - my kid was a McCormick acceptance. About a week ago.

GiantPeach, my package was postmarked on the 16th and made it to Arizona by the 18th.
