Northwestern Fall 2011 Transfer Thread

not always miserable. not in june, july, and august, at least :)

even september is pretty nice, i like that ‘indian summer’ feel

So am I wrong to assume that we should know something by June 15?

If last year’s thread is any indication, we should know by then.

What if we don’t have our final grades yet? Do you think that’ll put an application at a disadvantage?

too impatient… i just want to know if they’ll accept me :(

so do we have any idea if kids who get accepted or rejected get their decisions first???

Assuming the process remains consistent from year to year, I think it’s fair to say that some have already been rejected, and an elite few accepted (these would be cases in which the adcom felt comfortable making a decision one way or the other without the inclusion of spring semester grades). Last year, one poster was rejected in early May while another received an acceptance only days later - both before May 15th, if I remember correctly. The sample size of posters on this thread, however, is really to small to know whether or not any acceptances or rejections have been sent out yet.

I wonder if NU will accept as many students as they did last year. They had a surge in freshmen applicants this year, resulting in a 8% drop in their acceptance rate (from 26% to 18%).

I think it would be reasonable to expect a surge in the number of transfer applications, and therefore a decrease in the acceptance rate, like most other schools this year.

they also accepted far fewer freshman this year than they did last year… a few hundred less i believe. not sure what the yield is though. maybe they’re making room for more transfers to be accepted?:)

^Sounds too good to be true lol

the transfer director told me they received about 1500 applications compared to the ~1250 of last year, but theyre looking to enroll the same amount 80-125, so if last years standards are correct around 200-250 will be accepted and only 125 will matriculate

however, for anyone interested in engineering, info. i received from someone at mccormick told me two awesome things: if you wouldve been accepted into weinberg you wouldve been accepted into mccormick (so the standards for each college are the same), and mccormick (at least in terms of freshman, so i am hopeful its the same with transfers) accepts 2-3 times the amount of students who actually matriculate, varying from year to year, for freshman this year ~350 enrolled while around 750 were admitted

apparently mccormick has the biggest melt, so we can be hopeful!

anyone applied to School of Communication?

Hey guys, i kinda applied to Northwestern for funsies. I got my rejection letter about 2 weeks ago. Has anyone else heard anything? I applied as Communication. Now im just debating whether to go to USC or UCLA for communication hmm… o, and waiting on NYU still. But they’re lagging.

Stats: CCC junior transfer, 75 units completed with a 3.88

^ This is the first 2011 transfer decision I’ve heard. Has anyone else heard from NU?

Ha i got it in the mail the DAY i faxed in my final spring grades… good stuff NU

Does that 3.88 include your spring 2011 semester? What was your GPA before this last semester? Any other valuable info such as SAT scores, HS record, etc. you’d be willing to provide? I have a terrible feeling about my chances given the increase in applications and my very average HS performance. I was looking at my HS transcript today, and found myself absolutely awestruck by how man 87-89’s I made in AP/Pre-AP classes. It’s as if I just didn’t even notice or care.

I had a 3.85 when i applied with 63 units. Then in spring i had All A’s in 4 classes which brought it up to a 3.88 and 75 units completed. Then my SAT’s were in the mid 1800’s and high school GPA was very avg at like a 3.0 overall. But dont forget a lot of the admissions is a number game and ppl with stellar stats still get rejected… so there is always hope u know?

Yeah man, I feel ya. Best of luck at UCLA or USC, you can’t go too wrong there in terms of communications.
